IamLinny's Journal, 01 July 2016

Hello community! Hope you are having a good day!!!!

I just spent the past couple of hours reading and watching videos to learn about LCHF thanks to caterpillar2butterfly's help and links she provided. It was very enlightening and among many other things, yep, I learned I would need to give up my oatmeal and staying under 100g of carbs is not low enough to get where I want to go.

For years (about 50) I dieted mainly because I wanted to look good. Now, it's about getting the weight off my hips, knees and spine. I hurt...both of my knees need total replacements (one is a do-over!!) I have a slew of other health issues, most of which create unbearable pain. Like many of us, I learned at an early age that if you hurt, eat, you'll feel better. It's not working!!

LCHF would be such a huge change....all I ever bought was low fat/no fat...I can't imagine my eggs fried in some butter...I'm salivating. Yet, it's scary even thinking of making that switch.

I will continue watching some more videos and making notes. Hopefully by the end of the weekend I will be able to make a decision on where this journey will be taking me. I also am curious to see how I did this week on my own diet.

Thanks for giving me a place to ramble on and think out loud!

Stay safe over the weekend!!

@Lady Linny, I think the change would be a positive one hun. The craving will be there in the beginning. We cant lie about that. But you will get past them. LCHF really is a winning strategy for hunger control. if you really decided its what you want to do, which most of us hope you do, then you will want to incorporate Intermittent fasting with it. Most likely a 18:6 or a 16:8 Schedule to get you rolling. THATS when you will see fat flying off.

I'm sure you will make the right decision. I am diabetic. When I first got my diagnosis 16 years ago, I went militant on the carbs. Sugar numbers got back in line and I lost a lot of weight. I enjoyed eating steak, butter and other low/no carb foods. All was good for about 1.5 years, then I started to really crave carbs. I missed bread, I missed pasta, rice, etc. The magic can wear off. I am not saying LCHF is bad (I take no position on anyone's diet). However, I have heard others with my experience; after some period of time, they get crazy for carbs. My real recommendation is go in with your eye open (educate yourself - which you already are) and prepare for those potential cravings. Look for substitutes that you can work into your diet. This is a great site and there are many great success stories - You CAN be one too. I also suggest checking user Philmck - he has done great with LCHF. Good luck.

The problem for you mat, was YOU gave up on LCHF, its didn't give out on you. Its all about will power brother. Phil and Myself are HUGE proponents of LCHF and low carb and have both lost massive numbers on the fat scale with it. I was borderline diabetic and Phil was in really bad shape too. Nobody decided what you put in your body but you. Either you rule your body, or you let your body rule you. That's all there is to it really.

What a wonderful community! When I first started reading the journals I felt I was too old to fit in and certainly not able to do the exercising you all seemed to do. Glad I stayed! Young or old, anyone can take control of their life and be the best they can be. Knuckles....in all my years I have yet to see my "fat flying off", but I'm willing to experience it!!! I can't figure out what 18:6 or 16:8 is. Oh, and I'm lovin' "Lady Linny"! Matt, I "met" Phil the other day. After reading up on LCHF I understand better his comment to me about carbs. Steven, I do feel more focused and more importantly, I feel hopeful. I am excited to see where this journey takes me!! Kpw....what a truly sweet thing to say! Thank you!!! imatatingcrabmeat! I'm not even gonna ask where that name came from, but it makes me giggle...so that's a good thing! Yes, metabolism....I need to get off the laptop and take a walk!!! Thanks for the reminder!!!! Much thanks!

I had to re-train my beliefs when I went LCHF but us has been fabulous for me. I have little joint pain. I gave up dairy (except butter) and most grains except flax. I feel very good at age 61.

@Lady Linny, simply put, 18:6 or 16:8 is an eating strategy where you eat all of your days calories in an 8 or 6 hour window, and you fast for either 16 or 18 hours. It is intended to push down insulin to allow your body to stop burning glucose and start burning fat. It is COMPLETELY safe. It has helped REVERSE and CURE type 2 diabetes when combined with LCHF. And it is how I myself have lost 96 pounds now in 5 months. It Works. For EVERYONE. there is no body type or person it will not work for. Even people who are BADLY diabetic, or even people with thyroid issues. The only way to fail on it, is to eat more calories than you need to maintain your weight and to eat too often. Phil and I are living proof. As well as a few others whose names I cant remember right this second. But I bet Phil remembers the names. lol. Give it a Try little lady. Try the 16:8 first. I think it will be the kick starter ya need.

knuckles, so I can fast from 2 am till 6 pm; eat from 6 pm to 2 am and when I eat follow the LCHF. Do I have it right? Also, the first website I visited calculated my calorie intake at 1789 which seems high for a person who is sedentary. Then I watched Diet Dr who said no counting of calories. What say ye? Thanks!!

Yup, that sounds about right. Accept for the no calorie counting, that's BS. If you want to lose weight you need to eat less calories than your maint. calories. 1789 is pretty darn close to the maint. calories for your goal weight so that's a good estimate. So yeah, eat that in an 8 hour window and you will lose weight. The lower the carbs the better of course. Unless you are going KETO. Then you want carbs below 20 grams a day. I wouldn't unless you had SIGNIFICANT weight to lose though. Just try to keep them under 60 grams or so. The fasting is what switches your body out of glucose burning and into fat burning. If you want to know how, just ask. Ohhhh And Linny, I started at 417 pounds and am down to 321. Using exactly what I just told you got me to 340. I now eat about 1500 calories a day in a single meal and fast for 23 hours. I am feeling great. So lower calories wont hurt you. Just make sure you are getting enough vitamins and minerals. ESPECIALLY Salt, potassium, magnesium, and calcium. And drink when your thirsty. Remember, the less calories you EAT, the more of your body fat your body will burn. It truly is that simple.

when I was doing LCHF was the best for me. right now I´m doing carb cycling because I felt the carb craving and this type of diet kind of worked for me for a period of time, but now I´ m facing a plateau and just yesterday I was looking for meal plans on LCHF to switch back. but is good that you are doing your research to take the best decision.

Noreen and Chica, nice meeting you! I'm getting excited as I do the research. I feel like I need something new to shake it up, and LCHF just might be it!!! I got my MACROS and as much as I always thought myself to be unique, or at the very least special, :o) it appears that my MACROS are almost exactly those of an "average" woman! I'm average!!!! Who knew! lol....nightie nite
