I saw my doctor about a week ago for the results of some more blood work. I have now moved into the diabetic stage.:( Plus I have severe fatty liver (have known this for awhile now). She wants me to consider weight loss surgery. I had a hard time recovering from my 3 c-sections, so I don't think it's a good idea, but will go to the seminar in Denver (3 hours away) on July 20th & at least listen to what they have to say. In the meantime, I have started counting calories which is depressing as hell. I usually just try to watch carbs (which isn't easy either), but damn...who knew that I was eating so many calories?? Around 3,000 or so a day!! Usually a little higher than that. I'm supposed to cut down to 2600 to lose a pound a week or so it says on here. I want to lose more than that a week, so won't eat have 2600. I have been drinking more water. I have also started exercising again to an aerobics video that I found on YouTube. It seriously kicks my ass. It's high impact aerobics & I do it for an hour a day. Yep, shocked the hell out of me too that I'm able to do that. I was doing 30 minutes a day, but decided a couple of days ago to try for the hour & was able to do it & then did it again yesterday. Going to do it again in a few when I'm done here. Though I really don't feel like it today.:( I'm tired. But I know that it's something I need to do. My highest weight was a few years ago...was around 350. I couldn't fit into anything & looked horrible. I was able to get down to around 290, stayed there for awhile, but then got back up to 323.:/ I have lost a few pounds, but have a long way to go.

Hi Tammy, welcome! There are several here on this site who have overcome diabetes, lost huge amounts of weight and are regaining their health, hope you will enjoy their stories and encouragements. Sounds like you are right in reconsidering the surgery, have you ever thought of giving lowcarb/highfat (ketogenesis) a try? Sounds crazy but does seem to work and there are quite a few here who could every question on the how, what & when of it :)

You have come to the right place. I thought I knew what I needed to know about obesity and weight loss until I started reading other people's stories on here and followed up with my own research. You will get better!

I just saw these two videos last week and thought I would share them if you're interested. They're about reversing Diabetes naturally by Dr. Jason Fung and talk about how the standard treatment of Diabetes not only doesn't work but actually makes it worse over the long haul. He treats the reason for Diabetes not the symptoms (blood sugar levels): http://bit.ly/Uz4COC and http://bit.ly/1IVaZiP He's really sound scientifically and I find his videos encouraging and easy to follow. Good luck!

Great suggestions above. Usually you have to lose weight before you can have bariatric surgery, and some folks on here found that once they did that "required" weight loss they found it wasn't that hard and just went ahead and lost the weight. It's great that you know the benefits of low carb and have discovered you are just eating too much. You'll probably do quite well when you reduce your calories. Another thing to learn about is timing your meals. There is a great video on youtube about that and how it impacts diabetes (caused by insulin resistance) called "Fasting and The 50% Insulin Problem. By simply eating distinct meals (instead of snacking all day long) you can reduce your need for insulin and improve your blood sugars. By not eating for 16 hours (between your dinner and your breakfast) you can start to heal your insulin resistance. Best of luck! There's a lot of new information out there about type 2 diabetes than can help you - at the very least - lessen the impact on your health.

Hello August dreams! I would, if I were you that is, absolutely go for a gastric band operation. I have two friends who had it done and boy, do they look great now. Took a year I think but they lost an enormous amount. Her health returned, she has 2 kids now (got them when the band was already done) and she looks amazing. I would do it myself if I would weigh more than 100 pounds, really. Don't wait, you might safe your life! Very good of you that you managed 1 hour of aerobics, wow!! Good luck to you!

When I wrote "her" I spoke of the youngest of the two:)

Oh, and I meant 100 Kilograms of course which would be around 220 Pounds

I think you should do what you've started doing and then if the weight isn't dropping then consider the weight loss surgery. Weight loss surgery should be a last resort, however, I can understand your physician's concerns. Bottom line is the weight must come off now.

Please be careful when considering the risks of the surgery. It works great for some people, but the risks are real. I had an associate who had gastric bypass a few years ago. She lost weight alright. She couldn't stop losing weight, because she couldn't keep anything down. Idk all of the details of what happened, but she passed away a few months ago. Supposedly, it was from complications the the surgery lead to. She was nothing but skin & bones. The diet that you HAVE to follow after surgery give the same results without the surgery. If you don't follow the diet, you will still not lose the weight (or gain it all back). Our stomachs have great ability to stretch back out, or shrink with only the fasting that you have to da after the surgery for that matter. Good luck to you with whatever path you may choose!

C2B makes some great points. Anyone going under the knife is taking a risk, but if the weight stays on you are taking a risk too IF you aren't dilligent with diet and exercise.

I started my diet a little over a month ago. I am currently counting calories too. I am losing between 2-2 1/2 pounds a week. I chose to start with eating only 1200 calories a day. I think on here it told me over 2000 a day. Im finding now I dont even eat the whole 1200 calories. So maybe start off eating maybe a little less than 2000 calories a day and see how that goes. I have a friend who went for weight loss surgery and it didnt help her. So be careful about going for surgery.

You don't need surgery. You need LCHF and Intermittent Fasting. It will Cure your fatty liver AND your diabetes. No, im not kidding. YES I openly make this claim. The medical industry is full of idiocy. Listen to those greedy bastards. Or listen to us. The ones losing the weight curing T2 diabetes and getting healthy.

@Knuckles... I love your passion. I am equally as passionate about our plan, but I TRY to control it because it leads to so much conflict on here. Great cajunas, man! ;)

In my experience, too much passion will push people away from the very thing you hope they will do. Best to share information, encourage people and then let people make their own decisions. :-)

Also look into the Glycemic Index. Staying away from white food will make a difference quickly( bread, potatoes, pasta). Acupuncture and meditating will also help "clean" the blood. Spirulina ( blue-green algae) herbal supplement may help to control glucose in people with diabetes. Surgery would be a last option.

There are a lot of us on here with damaged metabolism. Diabetes can be reversed with the right diet. Check out Dr. Mercola on line. I'm using a high fat low carb diet to get healthier. I went through the whole induction for bariatric surgery about 5 years ago, but decided not to go through with it. It's been a long process, but I've lost almost 60 lbs. and I'm a whole lot healthier. You can do it! You've come to the right place for support.

I was in the same boat as you just two months ago. My doctor even admitted me to the hospital for a few days. I don't want to tell you how to diet and exercise, that's for you to figure out. I will tell you that you have to visit a diabetes counselor (your doctor will recommend one), an endocrinologist, and a dietitian. Follow their plan(s) like clockwork. Everything will fall into place for you. I was 373 two months ago. As of this morning I weigh 331 lbs. and my doctor is very happy with my drop in A1C. If I can do this, so can you.
