Has anyone on here tried Chia Seeds?

What Is Chia?

Chia is an edible seed that comes from the desert plant Salvia hispanica, grown in Mexico dating back to Mayan and Aztec cultures. "Chia" means strength, and folklore has it that these cultures used the tiny black and white seeds as an energy booster. That makes sense, as chia seeds are a concentrated food containing healthy omega-3 fatty acids, carbohydrates, protein, fiber, antioxidants, and calcium.

Hey thanks for that, Tjfields, I bought a bag of it from Costco, and I will look into the quinoa.

Can Chia Really Help You Lose Weight? In theory, chia seeds are supposed to expand in your belly, helping you to feel full, eat less, and ultimately shed pounds. But one study indicates otherwise. "Over a 12-week period, we did not see a change in appetite or weight loss" in study participants who consumed chia seeds, says researcher David Nieman, DrPH, a professor at Appalachian State University in North Carolina. "Our study showed no reduction in body weight, body fat and no improvement in traditional cardiovascular markers from 50 grams of chia per day.” A study reviewing the body of scientific evidence on chia found similar results. "The evidence is limited on chia, and only two clinical trials examined heart health and body weight," says explains researcher Catherine Ulbricht, PharmD. "One showed some beneficial heart effect, but neither showed any effect on weight loss."

Chia Seeds Deliver a Massive Amount of Nutrients With Very Few Calories. The authors also note that the antioxidant activity of chia seeds is higher than any whole food, even blueberries.

Chia seeds are delicious if you let sit overnight in your liquid of choice. I sometimes do almond milk and chia seed and will blend it with my protein powder and it helps keep me fuller longer and helps with cramps and muscle spasms I would frequently get .

TjFields, I'm going to buy quinoa as a substitute for rice for 2 reasons; 1) it is first suppose to aid prostate health and help defeat prostate cancer, which I have, and 2) my wife scoffed at it as crap! just now

Yes. Not crazy about them taste wise but they're healthy.

Yes, and you know what? Kp, I sat in a hot parking lot for an hour waiting for her, this time the foot doctor, but usually it's Kohl's. While I sat their, I asked my self a question. Why do I spend so _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (just fill in the blanks) much time in hot parking lots without in consciously realizing it? Explain it to me, PLEASE! lol

When making quinoa - soak it first in cold water for about an hour, then cook it following the package directions. It should be light and fluffy - not chewy.

You should go inside where they keep the air conditioning!

@Kp I realize this overkill right now, but last time at Rite Aid, she went in for an hour, and I turned her car radio on, and by the time she came out from shopping, the battery died. I really am a gentle soul. I was absolutely LIVID!

Hi Warren, I used to put the chia seeds into a smoothie, I think that's the recommendations for it, it's like a thickener for the smoothie or green juice. Warren, why don't you just go inside and wait in the waiting room and read cheesy magazines in an air conditioned room? Lol...

I put them on my yogurt or in my green tea and in oatmeal
