Ms Elizabeth's Journal, 23 April 2015

Todays motivation is fat pants. Unless you're short none of this will probably make sense to you. I am 5 foot tall. That's it. No inches. Just 5 foot tall. Apparently that is shorter than petite because it's next to impossible to find pants that aren't too long. They are always just a smidge too long. Not long enough to go to the bother of having them taken up but long enough that they drag a little and if it's wet they suck water up the back of your leg so when you get to work and you sit on your foot because well.. you don't believe in sitting properly then you get a wet butt and it looks like you peed yourself but you didn't you're just a person that sits on her foot. You're only saving grace is high heels which suck when you're going from a farm with a gravel driveway to a job where everyone thinks they are in the middle of fashion week. Solution? Complain alot.

Anyways.... I have a favorite pair of slacks. They range from size 18-14. I can go between those two sizes and they still fit comfortably. Granted at the 14 range they appear to get longer but they are comfy! Yesterday.. in the washing machine.. they suffered a mortal injury. The ends of the slacks gave out. I now have the end of the slack and a strip of fabric that doesn't seem to have any purpose other than to get caught on the back of a heel. It's not even connected at the end anymore because they've dragged on the ground for so long. It's tragic I tell you tragic!! So I sewed the bottom strip to the leg of the pants.. It's a triage fix at best. It won't help the slacks survive much longer. I only extended it's life by a couple of months at best. It's bad man bad. You can start to see the grey lose it's grey on the edge. I didn't know grey could turn white.. but it's headed that way.

I need to lose the weight stat. I REFUSE to go shopping for another pair of comfy fat slacks. If I'm going to the effort of shopping it better be for a smaller freaking pair of comfy slacks.. that feel like pj pants.. and make me feel better when my feet are about to fall off from the heels because the slacks will be just a smidge too long... and i'm too lazy to hem things. Plus when you hem them you look like you're ready for the flood when you sit and those days where you have a brain fart and you're socks don't match because no one has folded laundry and you're just glad you're not wearing your husbands tube socks... ok maybe this is just me. But still. I'm losing this freaking weight before the slacks rip out in the butt.

My pants have all slowly been getting tighter amazingly. I'm with you I don't want to buy more pants so I need to fix this before I have to shop for a bigger size. I am 5'4, so I have quite a few pairs of pants that are too long, and if I try petites they are too short, so regulars it is! I hate hemming pants, my mom used to hem my jeans (which is the worst!) when I was young and I vowed never to hem a pair of pants as an adult. So I have the heel catching, dragging fabric on occasion too, but I've managed to salvage some of my pants by sewing them back together, but it won't last forever and I don't want to buy bigger pants! I hate shopping so that is a great motivation, if we have to shop then it needs to be for smaller pants. We will buy smaller pants soon!

Oddly enough I have the same problem, sort of. I'm 5'6" with the legs of someone 5'3". Regular pants are too long and petit pants are just a smidge too short. I can lol 've with that in jeans but the waist is also too short and with a long body it feels like my butt is showing. So I have a solution: smaller butt. That means smaller jeans. I want jeans that don't have a W after the number. I'm in 16W now. Next goal plain 16 then 14. Maybe the length will fit better? Smaller butt.

oh dear I wish I lived near you, I have quite a bit of sewing experience and probably could fix them. Have you ever considered making some to your measuremments? Pants are easy peasy for some basic ones and you could use the favorite ones as a template. If it makes you feel better they are always short on me..

Argh...I have the same problem with the length - I also am about 5 feet nothing. And, once the pants become too loose as I lose weight, they drag even more! But I have three pairs of pants I can get on but not zip yet so I refuse to buy more clothes!

I'm 5 ft 2 in....and I maybe exaggerating about the 2 inches. And it freaking drives me crazy to buy pants. I too hate to hem. So I just fold them up once. Maybe twice if need be. Oh well if people don't like it that's their problem. And for non matching socks, I think that's the style now. I hardly ever see any kids with matching socks, but I can't bring myself to follow suit.

I am 5'2" and 40 years old. Right before Christmas, I was shopping for jeans (uhhggg) at Kohls and for the FIRST time in my life, I found a pair of jeans that FIT!! I was crying in the dressing room. Being brought to tears because a pair of pants fit (in the length) seems crazy probably to most people, but to this shorty, it was amazing!! I bought the last two pairs that they had. They were Sonoma Life + Style, slim straight, mid rise, size 16 petite SHORT! I have never seen petite short before, but I hope that they will continue to make them because they fit me perfectly!

I'm nearly 6'...most of my pants were too short (constant state of high water). Found Roaman's online - Love, Love, Love their pants!!!

Listen to mrsroboto - "Short" is shorter than petite.

My daughter has discovered Kohl's jeans and said they were the only ones that fit.

I, too had those beloved pants that seem to fit no matter what size I was. Although the buttons and funky little hooks had been replaced by safety pins...which only made them easier to adjust when I was heavier. :) They too, died....right after coming back from maternity leave. It was sad...but then I found the perfect pair of pants called memoir. They fit my short body with generous thighs and butt perfectly. I bought 4 pair. I didn't expect to lose my weight so quickly, but I did. So now they are too big. I went in search of these memoir pants to buy a smaller size but cannot find them anywhere!!! (well in the size that I need)... I'm so sad. I feel your pain.

I love roamans online too. The sister site Jessica London has some nice stuff too and they have the specialty stuff like tall and petites in some stuff(like pants). I just got a whole pile of t shirts and some summer dresses.
