chadlius88's Journal, 05 March 2015

Well, folks.. It has finally happened. I have hit a plateau. Ive been bouncing all over the place between 172 and 176 lbs.

What does this mean? Nothing, really. My body has just reached a point where my body fat is low enough that there isn't too much more to give up without going to a heavier calorie deficit (which I refuse to do).

My 84 day (12 week) program ends on Sunday, and I have lost 15 lbs. and about 6% bodyfat. I am still not satisfied. I will be maintaining my diet with little variation, and continue to train. Once summer comes and I am able to do all of my favorite outdoor activities, I'm sure I'll be able to shed off a few more %.

The gym that my wife used to go to for her group fitness closed down last week. so she has decided to join my gym and learn the ways of the Iron. I have written a 12 week beginner's program for her that I will be training her through. I'm hoping that after the 12 weeks are up she will know her goals, and be able to write her own program based on them. From there we will train separately (but go together), because obviously our goals will differ drastically.
173.8 lb Lost so far: 30.2 lb.    Still to go: 0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

Its really great to see you helping your wife. I Really hope I can get my boyfriend back in to the gym with me. He is so hard to motivate. But good luck, I hope your wife finds her goals. And hope you are able to get to your goal too. Sounds like you are very disciplined which is hard to get to

What really helps a person is having someone working with them. Don't know who it's going to help most with the two of you working out.... her or you, but it's cool that the 2 of you are doing it together.

I agree. I've been lifting solo for about 8 months now since my brother-in-law injured his shoulder. It's a lot tougher to get to the gym without anyone but yourself to keep you accountable. That's the whole reason why I post all of my workouts on fatsecret, it keeps me honest and transparent. I'm hoping that she gets "The bug".

I think she will catch on. When I get into my workout routines with weights I almost have to convince myself to take it easy for give myself a rest day, I love lifting. I get excited and a surge of energy when I lift heavy and see progress. Its awesome. I am sure once she gets in a routine and sees herself improving she will get hooked!

There's a lot to be said about the accountability factor. It's a major reason I'm on FS and also why I hired a trainer this time (for a little IRL motivation). It helps to be surrounded with like minds. Kudos for being supportive of your wife's goals, Chadlius88!

I have no doubt she'll get hooked. She's got you to encourage and support her and she'll give it all she's got to perform to her max.

Good luck with that...ha ha...my husband hates when I go to the gym with him because I have better form and can do some things he cannot (refuses) to do. That is why we go to different gyms...LOL

HCB.... I remember the story you shared about the teenage boys. Loved it.

To break the plateau, you can, yeah, lower the calories, or perhaps lowering the carbs might help, but definitely the option to increase cardio, in either length or intensity; these helped me break through mine.

I'm sure she will be able to do things that I can't. One thing that is guaranteed is that she will be able to squat deeper than I can. My body just isn't built for deep squats, hamstrings and Achilles tendons are way too tight. I BARELY make it past parallel unless I elevate my heels. She can "drop it low" as they say.

Great that the two of you can share that and work together.
