SkellyShelly's Journal, 25 December 2014

Yesterday my son and I went to Applebees for Christmas Eve dinner. He talked me into having a cheeseburger and onion rings because it was a holiday. I have not had a bun in so long and after I ate the burger almost immediately I felt sick. When we got home I spent the next couple of hours in bed with a very upset stomach. My body did not respond well to that meal. Whether it is the gluten in the bread or the way they cooked it or whatever, a healthier menu is what I have to do. Not feeling well after a meal is not worth it at all.

I relate. I'm vegan and gluten free and my body has adjusted to very simple, low sugar, unprocessed food. I got loopy from some trail mix that had vegan chocolate chunks in it last week. Note to self: I'm never eating chocolate again. I thought I might drive myself off the road. And then a couple days ago, I thought I could handle some caramel corn, but even that was too much. That night and the next day it felt like being hung over.

After eating healthy for so long our bodies get used to it. My cheat meals are very few far and in between. For that same reason. I feel sick afterward. And even when I have a cheat meal, I try to make sure I pick the healthiest option.
