ChrisComedy's Journal, 30 September 2014

Six hours of hours of solid sleep, followed by one hour of drowsing while listening to podcasts.

Morning plank. Ten minutes on the Air Walk Trainer first thing in the morning to burn off glycogen.

The Sunny stepper arrived. Built like a tank and weighing almost as much. My neighbors across the hall never lock the front door but did today so the UPS guy couldn't get in. Otherwise, I might have had it delivered right to my door step. As it was, I wrestled it up the stairs. It's pretty much the upper limit of what I can move. It will take a while to clear a space for it in the bedroom although it does have a small footprint. The Air Walk Trainer does a good job of getting my heart rate up, but I hope the stepper will build up my leg muscles.

Cardio: 1 1/2 hours on the Sunny Air Walk Trainer. Steps: 935.

I've been getting more fiber with psyllium, but it turns into a slimy gel when added to liquid which isn't too bad in a protein shake but not attractive in soups. I may switch to using it in baked goods and use flaxseed meal in soups.

The Oster BLSTPB-WBL My Blend 250-Watt Blender with Travel Sport Bottle I used for smoothies is beginning to make that electrical smell. I wonder if the motor is burning out. It won't be a tragedy. I think I paid $10 for it (Kroger has great deals on discontinued appliances). I hedged my bets and ordered a refurbished Ninja Prep Pro from Woot for $40. I've been looking at food processors in that range as I shift to more whole foods. The Ninja looks like a good deal in that it has three containers and works as a blender and a food processor.

Eventually I want to buy a blender. I'm thinking about making a smoothie as my breakfast meal. Still formulating the ingredients in my mind, then I have to buy the blender. If I see one at a good price I might get it but not use it until I figure out if the calories and carbs fit my menu plan. Something to look forward to.

Hey, maybe the blender will be my reward for getting to my goal weight! Thanks, Chris! Your journal helped me think things through and make a plan of action. :)

Glad to help, Deb. I've been using a Blender Ball for protein shakes in addition to the Oster My Blend for smoothies. The Blender Ball is used by a lot of people for protein shakes, but my experience has been the Blender Ball is not very thorough at mixing powders. The psyllium winds up sitting on the bottom of the container. I would imagine a blender would do a much better job of dispersing powder in liquid. The Ninja Prep Pro arrived today in a pretty hefty box. Just on weight alone I got my money's worth. It was one of my rewards. I'm closing in on using up all my rewards I earned so I'm going to have to set some new goals. :-)

I have a NINJA blender kit that comes with the duel blade spindle in the standard pitcher that NEVER needs to be stopped to push food down to the blades with a spoon (it sucks every thing down nicely). Great for family smoothies. But what I like most is the 4 individual tall mixer cups! I use them for single smoothies or to mix my protein shakes. I add 8 oz water, frozen banana, tbsp of peanut butter, scoop of protein, and 4 ice cups, then install the special tall cup blade, that creates that same incredible "sucking vortex" ... literally is done in 3 seconds, but I hold it for 10 seconds just to completely liquify the ice. Peanut butter is gone, except for the flavor. I have not tried with psyliium or the like, but I did put in frozen pinapple chucks and they too were completely liquified. The only thing I have ever found left is itty-bitty strawberry seeds when I throw in frozen strawberries.Once blended, remove the cutter blade, and install the drinking cap for a drink on the go!

I purchased a FARBERWARE 17-Piece Rocket Blender, Stainless Steel. Just for little things. Like to puree my tomatoes, onion and pepper with vinegar to make my own dressing.

deaby16, the Farberware blender looks like a much better deal at around the same price as the Oster My Blend: stainless steel housing vs. plastic and four containers vs. one. I put it on my Amazon wish list.

Yes, I have the Blender Bottle with the shaker ball for my protein shakes. I tried to mix ground flax seed into my protein shake and it was a mess. A lot of the flax seed stuck to the side of the Blender Bottle so I mix the flax seed into my oatmeal. I added the Ninja Prep Pro and the Farberware Rocket Blender to my wish list. :)
