DairyKing's Journal, 27 September 2014

Good Evening, FS Warriors! I am exhausted! I got up about 6:30 this morning, had a coffee, bagel and V8 juice. Gave it a little time; didn't want to start my run until the biological processes balanced out. That being done, I went out for an 8.0 mile run. Wore my FuelBelt with the 3 neat little contoured bottles full of water, and I also took along 3 chocolate peanut butter gels which I decided to eat one every 45 minutes. Worked out pretty well; I ate 2 gels with water at about 45 minutes and again at an hour and 30 minutes. I do think they do give you extra energy to keep going. They're only 100 calories and they're basically pure carbs - and that probably being pure sugar or fructose. It was my first time running with the gels. They taste pretty good, but they are thick and gooey, like eating carmel syrup that you would put over ice cream. While I was eating these, I began to think, "Hmmm, I'm putting these packages in my mouth and squeezing them until they are empty. Maybe I ought to rinse them off or wash them before I take them on a run again." Anyway, the training schedule called for 7.0 miles; I did a one mile warmup and then ran another 7 miles for a total of 8.0 miles. Longest run this year. Calves were a little tight afterwards and I had a little chaffing - which I hadn't had before. I will have to investigate that.

No, the watch did not fix itself. It still records the distance and time, but not the heart rate, which was the reason I bought it in the first place. I didn't want to carry a separate watch and HR monitor. So much for that. The one thing that really makes the watch about useless is the fact that it doesn't connect and upload the workouts anymore. Nike will do it for me, but they only put the distance and time in, and you can't analyze anything, or look at where you slowed up, sped up, or were inconsistent. And of course, you can't track the heart rate. Been down this road before. The Facebook support is nice and friendly, but they don't offer any advice or help that you either don't already know or can't get off their website. They have never been able to fix anything that I know of. Then they turn you over to Nike phone support and that's when life gets ugly. They cannot accept the fact that the owner would actually know what he or she is talking about. All you want them to do is send you another watch, but you have to spend days on the phone answering senseless questions, and trying things you've already done over and over again, until, as I did, I got short and asked how long this nonsense was going to go on, "Are you going to stand behind your warranty or not?" Now I'll have to do it all over again, or just take a loss and forget about it.
I was already pretty beat after the run. Went and picked my buddy up at the Vet. The Vet said, "Your dog doesn't know he's a middle aged dog, he thinks he's still a puppy, we can't keep him from getting excited everytime we go near him." I said, "Tell me about it! You want me to kind of keep him calm, but he jumps up and down like a jack in the box every time he hears me coming." She just said don't play fetch for wrestle with him, or anything like that.
Anyway, like I said, I was pretty wore out, but then I went over to the neighbors house, and began loading bricks in the loader bucket to move them from their place to mine. They want to get rid of them. They're nice pavers; I don't know what I'm going to do with them yet, but I'm not going to let them go to waste. They have a lot laid down in walkways and patios. I worked for about 3 hours stacking and moving them, and I am done-in. I told them that's all I can do for the evening. I get kind of worried sometimes when I overdo it, seems that's when I come down with a cold or like got that cellulitis in the leg that time. So, I quit, took another shower, ate dinner, and now I'm sitting here, a wasted man, typing my journal. I was going to run 3 miles in the morning, but I don't think it would be a good idea.

Hope you all enjoy the rest of the weekend. Toodles!

Man, you're always going. Bless you, DK. Makes me wonder where your pup gets all his energy. As for the watch, I'd weigh the principle of the thing (and the fixer that you are inherently) against the agita. Knowing me, I'd just get another and be done with it.

I hope you have a good rest. It sounds like you deserve it! You're very good at expressing yourself with the written word. How about writing a letter or email to Nike? If that doesn't work I would get on Amazon and other review sites and start complaining where potential customers might see it. That may get their attention!

I explained the situation on their Facebook Support page, and they referred me to their phone support again. Been down that road before. Their warranty states that the replacements product is provided "as is with all defects." Well, I got that replacement product 5 months ago. That sounds pretty ominous, and I pretty well told them what I thought of that. Been lookiing at other options. In the meantime, I'll just use my old stanby's. Nobody really stands behind electronic stuff much anymore.

I'm too sore to run tomorrow. It isn't the 8 mile run that took me out of the game; it's the squatting to pick up and stack all those bricks yesterday. I may go out for a light jog, but it won't be much more than that.

Toting pavers is hard work, hauled over 130 to my back yard last spring. Counted that as my weightlifting. I wouldn't turn them down either, I need more next spring. annoying when things don't work, have to return the 2 nd coffee pot back to Walmart, brand new and the program timer doesn't work. Will get a different brand this time.

You just gotta love returning things, Ughhh! I am reverting to Plan B on my electronic gizmos. I've got a SportBand with a foot sensor that will work fine for recording my runs on the treadmill and as a backup for the GPS outside. And I have an older Garmin GPS watch that has worked fine for 7 or 8 years. I will see what options Nike gives me on repairing my watch, but if it doesn't make sense, it will be disposed of. Still sore today, didn't run. I'm great until I get up from a chair. Getting better though. Today is a scheduled Rest day anyway; will be back at it tomorrow. Didn't see the need for a separate journal today, so this is it. Will creep on Buddy's journals today. LOL!

OMG - do not get me started on returning items! Just had a fiasco at Home Depot trying to returned an unopened box that included a bathroom ventilation fan we did not use...unopened, brand new exactly as it left the store the week before...I got East Coast on them and here in the Minnesota North Country that is not the usual scenario...LOL

Haha. I hate having to take stuff back, and I think they count on that. Kind of like the reason they give rebates instead of cash back. They know the majority of people are not going to follow through on applying for the rebates, unless it's a sizeable sum. Some of today's marketing strategies stick in my craw. Not that I ever get an attitude about anything, mind you!

Lol...GoodMan LOVES rebates! He shops at Menards (like Home Depot near us). They always have tons of stuff "free after rebate" ...he buys hundreds of dollars worth per year, donates it to a local charity that uses it for disabled people they help to train to live on their own...then he uses the rebate check to buy more...gotta love him!...and no, he doesn't get receipts to deduct it from our taxes. ☺

That's different than our Menards I guess, our rebates are only good for Menards merchandise, and I already have one of everything. LOL! I don't really, but we used to get rebate $$ instead of merchandise credit. Good for Goodman; bless him! That's wonderful! We have a couple of each of Lowes, a Menards, and a Home Depot to choose from - all my favorite stores, within an hour of us.

Yes, our Menards is the same way. GoodMan buys "free after rebate" stuff with the last rebate check, donates the stuff, then sends in the receipts for the next rebate check...quite the process. The local charity called Love I.N.C. (In the Name of Christ) puts on family classes like budgeting and parenting classes and when people attend they get "love bucks" which they can then use to "shop" in the Love INC store. GoodMan's donations provide new (unused) items to stock the Love INC shelves.

Ha HA - we have Menard's too but the commercials are so annoying I refuse to shop there... The best place around here is probably Lowe's - as far as customer service is concerned.
