Went to see my doctor yesterday - appointment scheduled 6 months ago, just a follow up and to get updated lab results for high cholesterol and inflammation (CRP high sensitivity) among other tests. 6 months ago my total cholesterol and LDL was high. Both are now well within normal range. LDL previously was 126 mg and is supposed to be below 100. Now at 96. My doctor was happy, I was happy as it dropped 30 points. For 6 months I have been keeping my daily cholesterol intake below 200 mg. No egg yolks, shrimp and minimal red meat. Also I rarely use butter or have cheese. All are high in cholesterol. I will have low fat mozzarella cheese occasionally. Asked my doctor if egg yolks are that bad for me. He said they can raise my cholesterol but it's probably fine if I have scrambled eggs or whatever a couple times a week (I don't have more than 2 eggs). So I made scrambled eggs for breakfast today with a tiny bit of mozzarella cheese. The inflammation last time was 12.7 mg and has been as high as 18. 3.1-10mg indicates higher relative cardiovascular risk. This time is was 7.2mg which is the lowest it's been for 2 or 3 years. To get that lower my doctor recommended eliminating or reducing processed foods in my diet, especially processed meats. Anyway, I'm happy with the results and keep trying to reducing processed foods. I do have 1/4 to 1/2 bagel most mornings for breakfast with a mug of hot chocolate. I find that if I give that up, I can't stick to a diet, it's my treat and my doctor said that was okay. Had a lower spine x-ray and tests for my kidneys to try to figure out why I've had intense lower back pain since the weekend. Waiting for the results - my doctor prescribed anti inflammatory pain medication and muscle relaxants for now - and they've really helped.

To change the subject - I live in a gated community full of deer. They are almost tame. I have a fenced in area for the dog to go to when necessary. For the past couple weeks a buck has been spending most of the day under the deck. That's not unusual - but normally any deer will jump over the fence and leave when I open the sliding glass door. No more, the deer just stands there and watches me and Bobby. Poor dog, has to wait until I can get the deer to move. Today there are 4 bucks under the deck!

Draglist - don't know about venison, never had it and never would. I rarely eat turkey anymore since there are wild turkeys all over my yard all the time. In spite of what a pain the wildlife in my yard can be, I really enjoy the deer, the turkeys, they are a calming influence and practically tame. Just had to chase a couple bucks out of the yard so I could let poor Bobby out for a couple of minutes. Update on my lower back pain: doctor's office called and said urinalysis was negative on whatever they were checking (kidneys) and the x-ray only showed some arthritis. They said my doctor suggested physical therapy, but I said no at this time. I don't think arthritis would have caused such sudden severe pain where I basically couldn't move for a couple of days. Was told a torn ligament or other injuries wouldn't show in an x-ray, would need an MRI for that. And while I've never had back problems, I know people who have injured their backs by vacuuming or other activities without even realizing it. I was doing some raking in the backyard about a day before the pain. Standing on a level area of my lot and raking up onto a steep bank. Maybe that did it. Anyway, the pain is not as bad so I'm just going to see how I feel in a week or two before checking back with my doctor. The anti inflammatory meds and muscle relaxants are really helping. So I'll just keep moving my heating pad between the couch and the bed and see how it goes.

Wow, those are some big yard ornaments! I had a squirrel almost run up my leg this morning and that was scary; can't imagine how I would feel about deer hanging around like you have!
