IT CAUSES CANCERS, FIBROMALGIA, LETHARGY, AND MUCH MUCH MORE. IT'S SIDE EFFECTS FAR OUTWEIGH ANY BENEFIT BY FAR....

I found club soda took the craving away. I guess i liked the mouth feel of carbonation. I sometimes add a little lemon or lime or unsweetened juice for variety.

Thanks Rita,

I eat mostly whole foods and quit diet soda for over a year drinking only water but I fell off the wagon about 6 months ago. I think you are right about the mouth feel of the carbonation plus, for me anyway, the sweetness of it.

I drink sparkling water. Did not like it at first since it is not sweet. Mixed it with oj at first, now I drink it plain daily and other drinks are too sweet.

That would be considered true by the FDA about may additives Americans consume. Sometimes it is more important to error on the side of common sense.

When I was a young'un back in the early '70s my Mom threw out all her stuff sweetened with saccharine because it was guaranteed you'd catch cancer if you ate any. We all know what has since been learned.

That event made me very skeptical of hype surrounding artificial sweet'ners. Not saying they're not correct...I just don't buy the hype right off the bat. These things MAY be proven incorrect. It just takes time.

Good point. Whenever I've failed to observe LC the way my body tells me I should, I could guiltily 'moderate' my carbs but it didn't matter - I still gave in to cravings due to blood sugar swings from eating too much glucose. Artificial sweet'ners didn't help.

But whenever my appetite is naturally suppressed by ketosis, artificial sweet'ners have never triggered cravings. The mileage of others may vary on that, but it's been my consistent experience and is another reason why I consider ketosis the key to LC success.

Yep, it definitely seems to vary from person to person.

I try to avoid artificial sweeteners. They are a synthetic, made from chemical compounds. There is very little natural about them. Maybe a few alcohol esters .. Even sucralose is artificially made. Stevia on the other hand is made from a plant. Yes, it is processed. You have to dry it and pulverize it to get the sweetness of it. It is not a synthetic chemical.

I use stevia in my morning coffee. Thats just about the extent of it. I may use it in some iced tea, instead of sugar.
I quit drinking diet soda a while ago. I also avoid anything with corn syrup or 'modified corn syrup' in it also.

I found like everyone else here, that it wasn't necessarily the sweetness of soda, but the carbonation itself. I started drinking seltzer water. It is nothing more than carbonated water. No additives, no sweeteners. I like to add a little lemon juice once in a while.

And I get Pepsi Throwback (made with sugar) as a treat. I never really had sweet cravings, only when my blood sugar crashed.....and that doesn't happen much anymore.

That is an interesting article. I use something called ez-sweet which is a liquid version of Splenda. It has less carbs than the powdered Splenda. I try to use it sparingly but it's very nice for cooking. For example when I make tuna salad or coleslaw I like a tiny bit of sweetness in it. The ez-sweet works perfectly. I have played around with using erythritol but the cold mouth feeling it causes takes some getting use to. I use it on plain pork skin to make a cinnamon "sugar" type snack.

I love seltzer water so much. I drink about 12 a day, it is so incredibly refreshing.
