Trying to figure out what to snack on at the movies instead of popcorn! How do you go to the movies and not eat popcorn? Shock

I take either nuts or flavored pork rinds with me. Sometimes also Laughing Cow minis in the round wax wrapper. Even a sugar free and sugar alcohol free protein bar. If these types of foods won't work for you, well, look on the bright side--it's only 1 1/2 to 2 hours long for most movies...you won't starve! Go somewhere nice that you can eat after the movie, instead!

Just account for it in your overall food consumption to allow for a treat now and then or whats the point of having fun.

im going tomorrow with my son to watch despicable me 2 and plan to eat a nice REGULAR sized bag of toffee popcorn ...within my caloric limits

my healthy eating and exercise most of the time easily compensates for this

Tracey, also beef jerky might work, forgot to mention that, just watch for ones with added sugars/corn syrup. Please don't put things like sugar into your body, regardless of calorie count! Or popcorn that can play havoc on you with blood sugar spikes. If you must have something, there ARE healthy alternatives that fit your chosen eating lifestyle. You can do this!

popcorn by itself really has no taste at all, just a chewiness, it's the salt, the butter, the seasonings that have the flavor so think about what flavour it is that you're looking for and try to make something that could be healthy and tasty.
Have you ever made Kale chips or you can use beets, sweet potatoes or whatever you like, thin slice veggies or break up kale into small pieces. put in bowl, spritz lightly with olive oil and then sprinkle with your favourite seasoning, if its salt, use himalayan salt, it's not processed and you use way less . I love cajun spice. cook in oven at 350 for 7 - 9 minutes and don't overcook, great chips and a healthy alternative with no preservatives or chemicals.
Enjoy!

One way to enjoy a treat at the movies without destroying your waistline is to bring your own snacks from home. Below are some options,

• Bottled water, club soda or Crystal Lite
• Flavor and Fiber Gnu bar or Chocolite Protein Bar
• Dry cereal: Fiber One, Kashi Go Lean or Puffins
• Low-fat mozzarella string cheese
• 1-ounce of pistachios
• Baby carrots or sliced peppers
• Pretzels
• Fruit such as apples, strawberries or raspberries
• Roasted almonds 100-calorie pack

Hope this will help.

I've taken my own popcorn to a movie - in a baggie in a LARGE purse! And to me, it's not just the calories in movie theater popcorn, it's all the chemicals - blech.

Use a substitute for butter such as sprinkle on butter powder or butter flavor which hardly has any calories compared to the real thing. Use that and some salt substitute and your good to go as popcorn alone is reasonably low in calories.

I would suggest a small amount of nuts,or string cheese, dried banana chips.

If I were to use the grease (it's not butter) that the theaters pour on popcorn, I would use up at least 1/2 my daily allotment of calories. Non oil popcorn (air popped) taste similar to packing foam "peanuts". Since the theater charges $5(US) for a small bag, and since I won't eat packing foam I am forced to do the obvious. Enjoy the movie without oil popcorn.

Luckily, Traceyhartman's chosen way of eating is Atkins, as can be seen in her profile, so fats are not really a concern. The popcorn itself is, however. Smile

Healthy fats would be preferred, of course...but it's not like she's going to ask for butter with no popcorn! LOL So, how she should try to still eat the popcorn doesn't factor in here.

Tracey, I hope you had a great time!

Wow - movies have changed! I still can't watch 'The Color of Money' without remembering some 15 year old usher having a fit and trying to confiscate my food because I carried in my own bottled water and pickles to survive a movie without(junk)snack food.

Naw, Bella, they still don't particularly condone bringing in your own stuff...the concessions are the only place theaters actually make any money. Just be discreet and I've never known it to be an issue.

I remember that happening a time or two when I was a kid and we went to the movies. No problem at the drive-ins though Smile

LOL Raven ... after that we started going to the movies at a theater that provided tables instead of stadium chairs and served beer, wine, pizza, salads, nacho's etc at the table (and very reasonably priced) ... you could even smoke in the balcony. As you can tell.. it's been a couple of decades since I went to a movie Smile
