Hi,

I would just like to know if anyone has noticed differences in their weight loss with and without caffeine? I only take black coffee, between 1-2 cups a day and I was wondering if that somehow slows the weight loss process. That said, I have also read that coffee actually increases metabolism. Any idea?

Coffee hasn't slowed my weight loss one bit. I drink a LOT, and have lost weight fast. Smile

I went from morbidly obese to being the owner of TABDIG - a weight loss coaching service that helps people worldwide losing weight. It's been an amazing journey. From October 4th 2010 to April 3rd 2012 I lost half my body weight - 80 kilos/170 lbs. Since then, I have had two cosmetic surgeries to remove excess skin. I have now quadrupled my strength, gained several kilos in muscle mass, and today I focus on building muscle, optimizing my diet, living healthy and helping people to reach the very same goals. I am stronger, healthier, thinner, happier! If you feel that you need help losing weight, don't hesitate to send me an inbox message.

Thanks guys. Perhaps moderation will help. I'm not willing to sacrifice coffee just yet, sacrificing all other food groups I can deal with. hhhmm...

Same here. I also rather randomly stop drinking it for months at a time... And my weightloss has been constant.

I'm pretty sure "wikianswers" is not a trustworthy website for obtaining information!

Caffeine has been shown to help with weight loss, but as with most things, you can probably find a study for and against caffeine use in weight loss. If you don't put anything in your coffee, then you are not contributing many calories at all, so it really should not affect your weight.

Agreed. I drink what amounts to a couple of cups of coffee in the morning, but I use creamer in mine. If you use a lot of cream and sugar in your coffee it may hinder weight loss or if you do flavored coffees that actually have calories those may not help either. I think when people don't think to record what they're putting in their coffee, or don't actually measure it out that's where the trouble comes in. I do half caf and haven't had an issue. And, I don't do any other caffeine during the day and my struggles have had more to do with the number of calories, not caffeine. I gained more when I was drinking caffeine because I was also taking in more calories.

I get disgusted with each new twist on an old story. The old reports indicated coffee is bad for lowering blood sugar. Then I read a report that wasn't the case and it was actually good for the gall bladder and speeds the metabolism to some degree. Recently I read that 2 cups of coffee are ok but anymore can impede weight loss and even make a person put on the pounds. I think it is more to do with what a person has with their coffee: the cream, the sugar, the cake , the cookies. I drink mine black, and at one time I switched over to green tea.It didn't make any difference.
Stay strong, stay focused.

I've READ and HEARD that too much caffeine can be dehydrating and that will definitely hinder weight loss. I still drink coffee daily and would not like to face the world without it, LOL. But I also drink a lot of water and tea.

And echoing some of the previous posts, I don't think coffee in and of itself affects weight one way or the other but too many shots of syrup, crème, caramel, if it affects a good nights sleep, etc., certainly will if not taken into consideration with the rest of the intake for the day.

All I can say is...If I get hungry..I drink a cup of coffee and I am no longer hungry..but you have to do things in moderation..no matter what it is..Surprised)

Hi, I love coffee too.
2 cups a day, it feels good and better.

How about ground green coffee?
In a study presented at the 243rd National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society (ACS), the world's largest scientific society, Joe Vinson, Ph.D., and colleagues described how a group of overweight or obese people who consumed a fraction of an ounce of ground green coffee beans each day lost about 10 percent of their body weight.

Good luck, and stay healthy!

1-2 cups IS moderation, IMO!
Drink your coffee, and enjoy. It won't hamper your weight loss.

Thanks to everyone...

I would probably suggest always keeping a day-to-day account of every detail. Make a history of your results and problems such as exactly what, along with when, you eat and drink as well as how you feel during varied hours of the day. This is an excellent thing to do for weight loss anyhow.

No. Black coffee by itself is actually a natural appetite suppressant. But, by "ADDING" the sugar and milk and whipped topping and flavoring, that will hinder the weight loss... Smile
