fruit: can you live without it?

I am an avid veggie lover I'll take any kind but you stick a piece of fruit in front of me and I'll ignore it till it rots. I have tried getting fruit into my diet but it's the last thing I ever want to grab. I've tried juicing them and that helps for a while I've tried them in smoothies. but I just get so uninterested in them. Are they really that important to have in a regular diet?? oh and just so you know I'm not a junk food junkie I prefer salt over sweet.

That's funny...i've heard of the opposite, where fruit is preferred to veggies. I even put berries in my salad or chopped pineapple in cooked veggies. Do you like cooked fruit?

I don't think anyone HAS to eat fruit to live a healthy life. I just think they are a good choice for a varied healthy diet. Just like any food group,Moderation!!!!

I don't think fruit is mandatory, but it certainly has value as part of a healthy, balanced diet.

Does fruit work for you as an ingredient, rather than as an end unto itself? As Rita41 suggests, fruits blend really well into green salads. You can also mix some fruits into oatmeal. Apricots pair well with chicken. You can make fun salads with fennel and oranges or apples or pears.

If you don't like sweet, but you want fruit, you can try to incorporate less-sweet fruits like cranberries, grapefruit, tart cherries, etc.

The trick is to find one you like. I know a person that will not eat any fruit except raspberries.

I mostly HAVE to live without fruit because it triggers my sugar cravings. One banana leads to two to three to . . . stop me! The fruit we have today has been bred to be much sweeter than the fruit our ancestors ate. If I could only get it seasonally for a short time, I'd probably be fine. I find I can responsibly enjoy berries, which I like to eat with full-fat Greek yogurt.

Im not a fruit fan either.... unless its in a pie!! lol lol. But I actually eat quite a lot....... tomato, cucumber, pepper, courgette, aubergine

Tomatoes, courgette & bell peppers are fruit.

You might have a fruit allergy and that's why you don't want it, Your body knows! I wouldn't worry about it, if you think about our ancestors, they could only eat what was in season, here in Canada it would've been apples and berries and only apples were stored thru the winters. So really it is only in the last 100 years that we've been introduced to all the varieties of fruits from all over the world now.
If it is a plant, eat it, if it comes from a plant, don't!

You don't have to eat fruit if you don't want to. You don't have to like it just because other people do. Most people don't eat anywhere near the government's recommendations for servings per day of either fruit or vegetables. You're better off eating lots of vegetables than lots of fruit, because the sugar in fruit can do a number on your calorie intake.
