When I started my weightloss journey back in January I decided to do the Jillian Michael's Body Revolution. Phase 1 when great and I really stuck with it 6 days a week like she recommends.
Just as I was about to start Phase II I hurt my ankle. The doctor called it tendonitis and told me to modify my workouts until it felt better. It took more than a month for me to feel better so all of phase II was modified and I felt I was slacking because I wasnt giving it my all. I did add biking into my routine to get some of the cardio I was missing from the videos.
I kept going with phase III in the modified version but as I started to feel better I added in more of the exercises that involved jumping. I had decided that starting next monday I was going to go back to the beginning and try to get through the whole program unmodified this time.
So last night I'm doing the workout and feel my ankle start to bother me again! I'm days away from starting over and now I am in pain again! I'm so motivated to lose the weight but my freaking ankle keeps getting in the way of me really doing the program correctly!
It took me two months to lose 10lbs! I only have three months left to hit my goal (another 20 lbs) before my sister's wedding. I'm just tired of my body being against me. I'm not extremely overweight so its not like I've abused my body for years putting massive pressure on my joints. The biggest I ever got was a size 10. All I wanted to do was prove to myself that I could do this program and lose the weight and apparently I cant! I just want to cry.

I'm not a doctor but maybe you should wrap your ankle before working out? That might save you some trouble. Don't let it discourage you work your upper body more.

It sucks when your body isn't able to keep up with what you want it too... But if you damage your ankle again not only will you not be able to reach your goal but you could do something more serious by pushing it too far too soon.
Rest it up as much as possible. Increase your calorie burn in other low impact ways so as not to aggravate it further.

When I hurt my ankle I added biking because it doesn't hurt and hopefully made up for some of the cardio I was losing in the body revolution program. I'm working out twice a day, biking in the morning and doing what I can of the Jillian Michaels videos in the evenings. When I started everyone was like "You can lose 30lbs in six months no problem!" Well here I am with only 3 months left and still 20 lbs to go. I've stuck to my diet, found new ways to add protein, without increasing my calories, reduced my carbs, only allow myself to drink one night per month. I'm doing everything I'm supposed to. What more can I do? It is just so frustrating to finally be this motivated and have something as stupid as ankle pain constantly holding me back.

It's really not fair, you
are
doing
everything
right. I can only suggest trying to find another exercise series that is still high energy enough to carry you forward but that won't aggravate your ankle.
I know you said you wanted to prove to yourself that you could do this series. But it's not worth hurting yourself to do so. Is it?
As for getting to your target weight: You
CAN
do it.
You are doing it!!!
It might be slower than you want but you
WILL
get there!

Did you ever try to see if you were allergic to anything, perhaps gluten or dairy. I could never lose weight until I found that out, and now without gluten and dairy it's easier to lose weight. My only problem is sticking to that diet. I love dairy. Just a suggestion, it doesn't work for everyone. There is also the candida diet, I did that and had some success. My buddy, lost like 40lbs on south beach. I will say this tho. It sucks, and I'm sorry you're not losing the weight. Don't get discouraged though. You can do it! We all get discouraged, but it's the people with the determination that see success. It's very tough. I've lost 50 lbs and gained it and more back and now I'm 2 steps back from where I started. Not a fun spot to be in. Good Luck and Happy Losing

Low impact seems to be the only route for exercise until your ankle gets stronger. Bike riding is good but you can add walking which is a good workout if done right. Jillian Michael's does a few walking for weight loss progs. the best advice i can give is avoid high impact to your ankle and build up the other exercises

Got back on the bike this morning and did my 5+ miles. I'm still frustrated but I'm going to continue doing what I can with the videos. Hopefully I have a good weigh in tomorrow. I could use a win right now so hopefully the scale will be nice to me for once.

Hi...it should be "I lost 10 lbs in two months!" vs "It took me two months to lose 10lbs!"
You lost 10 pounds!! That´s awesome.
Ok, maybe not so helpful given it sounds like you have a time commitment. (an event you´re prepping for)
Don´t sweat the workout...while it makes a difference over time in body composition (muscle tone, etc), weight loss is all about diet.
Given your average calorie intake (looks like 1250/day?) and your daily calorie requirement (roughly 1450 using BMR and guessing on your height)you are in line to roughly lose 1 pound every week and a half (that´s how you got to your 10 pounds in 2 months)
If you want to accelerate that, you just need to take less calories in...or workout to create a bigger deficit (but also makes you hungrier so much harder to cut calories...double edged sword!
Keep at it, this takes time and you will reach your goal...and if you´re losing weight and feeling good you´ll be all set for that wedding whether you lost 2 pounds or 20!

Even though you read everywhere that you must be on board with one or more vigorous exercise programs to lose weight, I'll let you in on a little secret: weight loss is about controlling what you eat. People who count on exercise to lose weight are likely to chuck the whole thing completely and go back to eating as they used to when they are injured and can't continue the exercise for a while.
Resistance exercise will help you preserve your lean body mass while losing weight. Find a low stress program and concentrate on creating balance in your life.
Get into fitness again when you are healthy.

If you have a heated pool in your areas you might be able to find a water aerobics class or something. You can do great workouts but it is much easier on your joints. But really, be good to your body. Losing 20 lbs is not worth having chronic joint pain. And unfortunately, my doc says once you have bad tendons be prepared for more. Good luck!

I agree with some others here, keep up with the eating right and do what exercise you can. Biking is great exercise, and if you have anything else you can do that's low impact maybe try throwing that in there too, even just walking is better than nothing. Or, keep doing the modified Jillian workouts. This journey is about making yourself healthier, not breaking yourself, and it sounds like you are doing a great job at getting healthier so far. You will reach your goal, it may just take a little longer than expected. Keep up the good work!!

Hi, You don't have much left to lose, so it can come off slowly. Celebrate the 10 lbs! Try strength training, as muscle burns more fat and increases your metabolism. Ab work, arm work and some leg work can be easily done w/o hurting your ankle. I LOVE the water exercise idea. That's a great way to go. As long as you're moving some, as it seems you are successful doing, you're doing GREAT! Log food, drink lots of water, it will come off. Take your measurements. Also, stress dumps bad chemicals in your body and can stall your shed. Take care of yourself and know you'll get this done. You are determined! GOOD FOR YOU!
It is done unto you as you believe! I believe in health, wellness, fitness, and happiness.

Yup I agree with Birdie Tweet muscle burns fat so light weights and reps will help you, coupled with swimming, is just as good... well done on the 10lbs.
enjoy

Muscle does NOT burn fat. If you increase your muscle mass your body will burn more calories to maintain it. No - that is not semantics. Heavier weights and lower reps are actually better for you than the opposite.
Einstein said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Stop doing the Jillian Michaels workout and find something else. I can ride an exercise bike at a very high pace for over an hour. I can put a 35 lb pack on my back and hike 20+ miles a day on the Appalachian Trail. If I tried to run one mile right now my knees, hips, and back would be in pain for days. So I don't run.
Pain is a by-product of a good time.

From my research this is true and I agree.

Depends on if your intent is to bulk up or tone?
Einstein said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
<<<< Agreed. Changing things up from time to time not only will keep you interested, It will trick the body so your weight lose and progress should continue to move along.

OK! You are right. Muscle DOES NOT burn fat, it burns more calories. I stand corrected. It helps. Thanks for the correction. Now I'm waiting for the results for myself in the burning of ANYTHING.

Hi fellow forum buddies. I did actually mean that increased muscles mass burns more calories which will help in lowering your weight and reducing fat..... I didn't think I had to spell it out ......I will next time try to be more exact ..... Thanks for the correction

Have you tried other workout videos other than jillian michaels? Collage video.com has a large collection of videos for every type of video usually cheaper that most places including walmart.

Going for a walk this morning. May get in a run, or do it tomorrow. Watching everything I eat...no weight change. I'm bummed! 20 lbs. off and the progress just stopped! It's been about 7 months. Age! It's all about age and hormones! Ugh!!!
