What is the point of this new Notification? Seems odd.. I think it is a running list of buddies posts?

I think it's ala Facebook. So you can keep track of your buddies. It's a little much for me, too. Especially since it notifies on the site as well as via email. I'm sure I can turn the email notes off, but I haven't the time right now.

Boo.

I haven't been on since Sunday, and wondered what the heck? I suspect that it in response to requests to be able to tell when someone has commented on our journals, but takes it a bit too far.... :/

I agree with shmiller, it's facebook influenced. I think FS would do better to fix all the bugs in the existing FS rather than branching out and emulating other social media. It's easy to turn off in your settings, but why not notify when you are rolling out something new?

I contacted support. Their response:

From your account settings http://www.fatsecret.com/Default.aspx?pa=mpro there is now an option to turn of notifications.

I have the notifications link when I come to the main FS site, but there's nothing under it and no way to add anything. It doesn't seem to be on the international sites, and my account is on one of the international mirrors. So, it's seems on my account to do absolutely nothing. I do wish they would a) as someone said fix the outstanding (and longstanding) bugs first and b) make the sites at least consistent with each other (for example there's no 'diets' on the international sites, which can make forum posts tricky if you aren't on the right one).

I just noticed it tonight....I just went to my setting and unchecked it. Yep-wish they would change a few other things first.

Sadly, the only thing I could find was a way to turn off email notifications. I still get the stupid annoying notification account at the top of the page.

Me, too, Hoser. Not a welcome addition.

Between this and my weigh-ins sometimes posting to my ticker and/or challenges but more often not, I'm about ready to go elsewhere.

I don't really mind the 'notification count' in the corner.. I just ignore it if I don't care about it and sometimes it's really nice to be able to just click on it and see what's new in my "buddy world" in one convenient spot.

There will come a day when you can no longer do this. Today is not that day.

Agreed that'd be useful, but in the meantime you can create a custom meal/recipe, then add that recipe to your diet calendar and just divide by what you think the portion size is.
