This is really dependent on your specific goals and diet plan. Are you low/no carbs? Low/no fat? There is really no single answer to this question.

I personally feel great when I'm around 1/3 calories each from Protein, Carbs, and Fats. I try to stick with complex carbs and HEALTHY fats.

For a 2000 calorie diet, this would be about 167 grams of Carbs and Protein a day each, with 74 grams of Fat.

For some time I did 40% from Protein, 40% from Carbs, and 20% from Fat. I would say that the plan "worked" but was much more difficult to maintain.

Hope that helps...

I agree with msawyer, definately a mix of protein/carbs/fats at each meal. I recently heard that you should get 31% of your calories from protein. Another rule of thumb is 1 g of protein per lean body mass (so if you have 130 lbs of lean body mass, that's 130 g daily). I then like to keep my "net" carbs (after fiber) to 125-150 g daily. Those carbs are mainly from veggies, berries and some dairy. The rest is for good fats. I try and hit 2000 calories a day but often find myself hitting about 1500 but my food is nutrient rich so I don't worry about the calories as much as what I'm eating.
