That was me! I struggled after having my last baby. Started 2012 at 173lbs. I produce too much insulin and have a "sluggish" thyroid...as my doctor put it. started 2013 just under 125 so it can be done!

I've always had thyroid trouble too. I had some blood work done about six months ago and it's found that I too produce too much insulin like Preggo38. I haven't been as successful as preggo but I lost about 35lbs in 2012 and am aiming to lose the last 15 by the end of March although I'm already more than half way there since I started Dukan one week ago. Dukan worked for me far better than Atkins. I was always leary about the amount of fat on atkins.

Mini goal : loss 6 lbs a month

Long term goal : Get down to 160 lbs by the end of summer and to be able to keep it off.

Carbs vs Protein
I thought most doctors also referred new diabetics to a nutritional consult. I would ask; they can give you lots of ideas.
