Hey Guys,

Like so many others, I'm sure, my New Year's resolution is to keep at this thing, lose the weight I need, and then maintain it!

What is YOUR New Year's resolution?

I found this little article online, that I thought could be of use. Hopefully it'll bring you a little closer to your goal. Smile

Thanks for the article, KP. Step 1: Write it down? OK, here goes.

My resolutions are:

- to lose weight, finally reach my goal and then go beyond my goal to be an ideal cycling weight

- to be a stronger and faster cyclist

- to do something about the clutter in my house

- to find the balance to make money without working around the clock, maintaining a quality of life

Those are great resolutions, Helewis.

Let me be a little more specific too:

I will be weighing less that 80 kilos. I will do this before my next doctor's appointment. If this fails, then I will make it for the next.

I will qualify for my 2nd surgery, have it done, recover and STAY under 80 kgs, for life.

I can and will do this.

Two things stuck out at me... You can not plow a field by turning it over in your mind!!! (oh, how true!)... and... PLAN your work, then WORK your plan! (another gem!)

My resolutions are about decisions. I have resolved myself to make changes this year. Lasting changes. So, with that some decisions had to be made.

1. I will eat every day.
2. I will be active every day.
3. I will honor myself with thoughtfulness, love, joy and honesty.
4. I will look for ways to extend myself to others... every day.
5. I will lose the unwanted weight, firm and tone my body, and work towards the most mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually healthy state of body and mind - ever! (for me).
Live, Love, Laugh ...make each day memorable and enjoy the journey.

The bar noted below, does not tell the entire story!

Mine are :- I will aim to lose a realistic amount of weight this year, & then next year, & proabaly into the year after! ie I will not start off believing I will be in skinny jeans next christmas & then get disolutioned by April when I still have 100+lbs to go. So I will aim to lose 70lbs this year ( 1 1/2lbs a week) but will accept only losing 50lbs if that is all my postmenopausal body will do.
Secondly I will complete, type up, edit & summarise my family history research this year. I have been researching my family since I was 15 yrs old & my husbands for 20 years & if anything happened to me I don't think anyone would bother to go through all my hand written notes & make sense of them.

After reading everyone else's post I realized I answered the WHAT but not the HOW. A lot of people did better with that than I did.

#1 - to lose weight, I'm going to strive to lose fat. My trainer hates the idea of skinny (I don't). I'm looking for a significant deficit so in addition to my regular weights and cycling, I'm going to join a gym to get some extra "steps" in. I'd like to keep an RDI around 1400 at least until our weekend rides go past 35 or 40. Eat clean, restaurants no more than once a month. Im with Buffy, lay of the nuts for now. And I'm with bug cakes, no food after 7pm.

#2 - to become a stronger cyclist, I joined a cycling club that does coaching. I had to get my US road license to participate. I wont get faster if I don't lose the weight, so these goals are intermingled. I also need to get in more miles, hills and miles. It's almost that simple.

#3 - to do something about he clutter in my house, especially since my bf is so attached to it, I'm going to start by giving away some of my books to the church around the corner. He can't complain about that!

#4 - to find a balance between work and life, I have to take time or myself every day. And tthen I need to evaluate better every job that comes to us and carge accordingly. Easier said than done.

Thanks for the opportunity to rethink this.

Helewis, I really like yours, I may steal it all!

My resolutions:

1 - Lose Weight - Goal 185. That's 30 lbs from now, 20 lbs from my pre holiday weight. Should be no problem really.

2 - Cycling - I want to do a Century (100 miles). That will be my only cycling goal that is "resolution worthy" besides to "keep cycling!"

Thanks Keld, and all for inspiration. I used to despise resolutions (Maybe I still do), but these are realistic and something I would like to do.

Let me clarify further too, though it's pretty obvious:

I aim to lose weight down to less than 80 kilos before February 22nd, if at all possible. If I don't reach this goal, then ASAP. I want to qualify for surgery, and be done with this once and for all.

I will reach this goal by having a 1000+ calorie deficit DAILY, except for my Indulgence Day, which is MAX once per week.

I will use FatSecret to count my calories and weigh in Daily.

I will exercise daily.

I will do my home exercises every/every other day, until I start in the new gym here in town next week. I will try that on for size, and see how it works out for me.

After I qualify for my surgery, I will recover, and eat healthy, and I will have learned from my mistake last time and NOT keep telling myself that the weight gain is fluid.

I will stay active, and walk, work out, and generally do a little more than I do at the moment.

I will stay happy, smile, help others, and inspire!

Life is good! Let us not miss it!

A little follow-up article that made me think of this post when I read it. It's a little long, but worth the read/skim if you have a little time! (and especially if any of you are struggling with your resolutions already!)

New Years Resolutions: Practice Makes Perfect

Someone who is busier than you is working out right now.
There will come a day when you can no longer do this. Today is not that day.

Me too!

I was struggling to think in concrete terms, but Kingkeld gave me a good model.

I want to lose 25 lbs. To get there, I will:

I will use FatSecret to count my calories daily.

I will exercise daily, even if it is just a 20 min youtube aerobics video.

Thanks for the support!
