Treadmill vs Elliptical trainer

hi, which is the best option using a tredmill or elliptical trainer, i recently hurt my ankle and have been finding it hard to go back to using the tredmill and someone suggested i switch to the elliptical machine as its less pressure on the joints my problem is will i get to burn the same or is it that effetive

The treadmill is hard on your knees and ankles. The elliptical however is not. It's low impact.
Food isn't a reward.

Yes, I am talking about muffins in a mug. They really fill me up and I don't eat more than 3 a day (3 meals, mostly 2). I track them and fit into my daily totals.
