Do you have to sweat for it to work??

I'm just wondering is my raised heart rate enough to go by or should I switch to something tougher? It seems like a waste of time if Im doing an 80 minute workout which might not work if I don't sweat a lot.. Any advice would be appreciated!

you should probably find a workout with a higher intensity. your workout must be a bit too easy for you

But it's not that I found it easy, I still found my heart pumping and I was out of breath, just no real sweat..that's why I'm wondering is it more about raising your heart rate or do you have to really sweat to be successful?

I think if you are not sweating you are not working! A heart rate monitor is invaluable for this, because you can be panting and out of breath but just not working as hard as you think! You can be panting and out of breath in your aerobic zone, but thats nowhere near as hard as your cardio zone!

If you want to get a cardio effect from an exercise, your heart rate must be in your cardio target zone. As you continue to do the same workout, it will eventually get easier for you until it is no longer aerobic.

So people who pick a challenging speed and distance on a treadmill will eventually find it getting easier until it becomes effortless.

I definitely recommend the heart monitor. I have used them for years whenever I do cardio. Too high or too low will not give maximum results.

Could it be that your room temp might be a little cooler? If you did it during the summer maybe you would've been sweating more since your room temp was hotter. If you've ever heard of Bikram or Hot Yoga, people do yoga in high room temps to burn more calories. Could that be the issue?

I don't sweat as much doing my zumba, but I am attributing that to the temperature of the room. It's winter here, so it's not as hot or humid and thus I don't sweat as much. Also, if you don't have much fluid (water) in you, I don't think you would sweat as much.

You wont sweat so much if you don't consume to much water. I agree with Ncnole, me i sweat in winter time too but not as much like in summer time. Also the body in winter time do not consume the same quantity of liquids if you notice? well we should drink more water if we work out and we have a lot of activity. But if you don't have activity to much and you consume to much water your body my retain that wich again can be a problem.

Thanks guys for your input! It could be lack of water/room temperature as it is freezing here and I do the workout first thing in the morning so wouldn't have much water in my system!. I'm gonna stick with it anyway and hopefully I'll see results soon Smile
