Getting a good scale

So yesterday i weighed myself, and then today I weighed myself at approximately the same time as the day before and i gained 3 pounds. Now I know that different things play into weight loss/gain like going to the bathroom and how heavy your clothes are, but I feel like it shouldn't change by 3 lbs. Any suggestions on a good scale to purchase that is maybe more reliable?

Before you do that, a couple of things.

Are you weighing yourself on a solid, level floor? Don't put your scale on something soft like carpeting.

Second, try getting on and off the scale ten times in a row, giving the scale a few seconds to zero out between readings if necessary. Record each one, and see how consistent they are.

Consuming a meal the night before with a little extra salt can be one reason. Eating some extra starchy carbs can make you hold more water weight. If your female the week leading up to your time of month can cause significant water weight gain. A 3 lbs fluctuation isn't anything to worry about. Keep tracking your weight.... you'll see how it fluctuates. It's normal, don't panic. Stay strong Smile

I agree with the posts above. The scale accuracy is measured by weighing more times at the same time and if the readings are consistent ie within 0.2 pounds the scale is ok. Another test is to use a known weight as a benchmark ie weighing exercise weights and checking that the valus is correct.

3 pounds fluctuation between one day and the following is normal and that is one of the reason why I think it is not a great idea to weigh everyday.
I personally use an Omron scale with body fat monitor which is very accurate and relatively cheap.

You could take a 5 lb bag of flour or sugar and weigh - if it says 5 lbs. then your scale is likely accurate. Sometimes you need something heavier, like 10 lbs - then you could use 2 bags or a set of handweights.
