I glanced down at my shopping cart today while standing in line at the checkout counter, and I was really happy with what I saw. Almost nothing in my cart came from the center of the store, and the two items that came from there (chicken broth and ghee) were basically just things I'm too lazy to make myself-- they're not nasty artificial food products. Most of it was produce, with a some meat and cheese. I have:

- Two kinds of greens
- Cucumbers
- Artichokes
- Onions
- Herbs, spices, peppers
- Tomatoes
- Bananas
- Ground pork
- Bacon
- Paneer
- Ghee
- Chicken stock

The big items that I'll be making from this are sag paneer, roasted tomato soup, and breakfast sausage.

What does your cart look like this week?

Nice pic Hoser! My husband and I try to shop with that same principle- produce and meat/dairy, not artificial stuff, or breads/grains. Generally we shop at Costco once a month (and maybe the local supermarket or asian market biweekly), so a picture of the cart wouldn't be as aesthetically pleasing as your photo. Our big purchases besides the produce are cottage cheese, eggs, poultry sausage, fish, boneless, skinless chicken and ground turkey. It's not uncommon for us to go through 180+ eggs and 8 3lb tubs of cottage cheese each month. (Though I cook for a household of 4.)

I'm not quite as great as you are as far as staying away from the center of the store, but I do take a little evil pleasure in checking out behind/in front of someone with a cartload of crap food.

Oh my gosh! I thought I was the only person who checked out other peoples carts! Lol! I once told my sister I secretly did that and she was so surprised!

The lines were long today... I guess tomorrow is a holiday, so the store will be closed. I used the wait time to rearrange the cart into something a little bit more photogenic than the usual haphazard tossing-about of things.

I absolutely judge other people by their shopping carts. I go to a grocery store in Berkeley that's populated by a mix of hippies and yuppies, so there are more carts that look like mine than there are carts full of TV dinners and cookies and potato chips and soda. When I go to normal supermarkets, though, I'm appalled by what I see. I always want to tap them on the shoulder and ask, "Excuse me... are you going to buy any food to go with that?"

I generally don't judge other people's shopping carts, but....recently stood in line next to a family whose cart was filled with just (no exaggeration) 2 cases of regular Mountain Dew, several boxes of Entenmann's, a few more cakes and pies, and a bunch of frozen pizzas.

It was impossible not to notice. And while it might have been for a party, the morbid obesity of the young children suggested otherwise.
It was rather sad - I hope and assume the family simply didn't have any rudimentary nutritional knowledge whatsoever.

But on a more positive note: nice cart Hoser. It's making me hungry!

Some fruit and vegetables are nice but I choose a variety of what is on offer. Daily treats keep me on track.

I gotta take a pic of my shopping cart next time I go grocery shopping. My last trip looked like a mashup of Amys, coconut milk and random fruit.
