Can I do brief exercise throughout the day to loose weight?

Quick question to those fitness buffs, or at least more knowledgeable than me in the fitness field...

Is it possible to loose weight by incorporating brief bouts of exercise into my daily routine, or can I only loose weight if it's all done at once and I'm just wasting my time by doing a little throughout the day?

For example. Anytime I have to go to the bathroom, I'll go to the bathroom on the next floor down or up and I take the stairs to get there. I work on the 5th floor, so whenver I need to make a trip downstairs I will take the stairs. I wont take the stairs going more than a floor or two up though because I'll get winded and sweaty and then my co-workers just get concerned about me.

I've seen these kind cycling machines ( for sale on Amazon I was thinking of buying and giving a try as well.

Any advice is appreciated!

Any extra activity will help you burn a little extra calories through the day. It may not make the pounds fall off, but if thats all you can do, its better than nothing. And Think about your health and not just losing weight. Being more active is good for your body. So keep taking those small steps and maybe eventually they will lead to bigger ones, and a healthy active lifestyle.
1st Goal: 220 lbs (pre baby weight)
2nd Goal: 180 lbs (lowest adult weight)
One Year Goal: (June 17th, 2012) 165 lbs

Like serafano said, anything extra is good. I do the same I try to get up and move around. On my lunch I go sidebends when I am done eating.
