Here's a fun little exercise to do, as we progress through our weight loss journey.

When ever you reach a little goal (or just whenever), go to the local supermarket and find products that weight the same as what you have lost.

Lift it. Feel it.

It's a great eye-opener to see how much you really lost, and it's an AWESOME motivator.

Have fun with it. Take pictures.

I used to take pictures like this, but I am no longer able to, for obvious reasons. Smile I think this little exercise helped motivate me to go all the way.

Life is good!

EDIT: Maybe we should make this the challenge of the day: Take a photo, post it here. If you're in doubt how, read this:

Great idea! I might have to go to the dog food aisle for once to find a heavy bag. Or rice sometimes comes in large bags.

Kingkeld... can you still lift what you've lost? You might have to ask someone if they let you lift them up.

That is a great idea, but I know I couldn't lift what I have lost. I tried to lift a 52 pound bag of dog food the other day and I barely got it in the shopping cart. It is hard to believe that the weight of the dog food + another 43 pounds used to be on my body.

Saswank80...congrats on your amazing weight loss! Can you imagine climbing stairs or just walking with all that extra weight? How did you ever manage?

Larastar, I can tell you that I didn't manage very well. It makes me sad to think that I did that to myself. It also makes me never want to go back there again.

King, I use the same visualization exercise myself, but never thought about taking pictures. Now I couldn't life what I have lost (I don't think), although I do sling around some 48 pound bags of dog food and 50 pounds of rabbit ration. When I do I always think about the fact that I used to carry that weight with me everywhere I went! You have all done soooo well! Smile

when I make a major goal weight...25 or 50 lbs, my trainer makes me carry the weight for the rest of the training session. 50lbs was pretty heavy!

I've lost 24 pounds since October. Last weekend I picked up just THREE 5# weights from the traction cart in the physical therapy department, and Wow! I couldn't believe that plus two more used to be part of my body. I tried to imagine performing my job duties while carrying five of those around all day...shocking, really. No wonder my feet hurt so much!

LaraStar - there is NO chance that I can lift what I lost - which is kinda weird, when you think about it. I used to drag all that extra weight with me everywhere, all the time. Everything considered, I was fairly active too. I was never the type to just sit and be a couch potato, but of course I wasn't an athlete either.

The dog food photo I posted is the last one of me lifting. I almost snapped at Wife because she was taking forever getting the camera ready, and those bags were HEAVY! LOL.

I do think that I need to do some kind of "goal" visualization, maybe a shopping cart with 170 lbs of goods? I hope I can just put them back on the shelf after, and not have to actually buy them. Smile

Sadly, I've gotten rid of a LOT of cool shirts. I'm slowly building a new collection.

I know I cannot lift what I have lost - I have enough trouble with a 40 lb bag of kitty litter.

I, too, have thought about the fact that I used to carry more than twice that amount around. All the time. I now get a secret little thrill, knowing that it is SO much easier to walk up the basement stairs. Joyce

I'm not convinced I can lift what I've lost either. How weird is that? It makes you wonder how we managed before when that weight was part of our bodies. I've got a GIANT bag of cat litter at home that I'm going to weigh, and if it weighs close to what I've lost then I'll definitely be trying out this tip (perhaps with the aid of a table to sit it on!).

Also, I feel your pain on losing a lot of cool t-shirts. I had a great collection of t-shirts that I can no longer wear. Thankfully they fit my fiance, so I still get to see them going to good use!

Great pics and profile! I'm 48 and I am also a metalhead. I call my MP3 player my performance enhancing drug.

Mostly because you were lifting and carrying that extra weight with (among others) your legs and back, some of the largest muscle groups in your body. Lifting the weight with your arms involves...just your arm muscles. Substantially smaller.

I love this idea! I will have to hunt for something this weekend at the grocery store. It'll most likely be a huge thing of kitty litter.
