OK so I haven't used this Forum yet so if I mess this up sorry, I might have posted this twice?

Hey just curious what everyone thinks? I've been working on myself since 2008, lost 60lbs originally and gained 20 back, but never "quit" just slacked had knee/shoulder injurys etc.
November - Jan 1st I did HCG lost 18ish pounds and then when I got off I started hitting the gym again hard! I've been going 6x a week now for 1 month exactly I'm stuck at my current weight! I've been pretty good and eating aprox 1000-1200 Calories a day, my new chalange for myself is to track calories religiously which I just started and just realized maybe I wasn't eating enough so I've up-d it some now trying for around 1500-1800? Does that sound resonable? I work a desk job and I burn 5-700 calories a day at the gym I do cardio and weight training mostly. I still have about 20-30lbs to go for my ideal weight...THOUGHTS on calorie consumption?

I tend to think under 1200 is dangerous. I'm 5'8" and I've restricted below 1200 in the past, and it made me sick, exhausted, anaemic, and there was no weightloss after an initial drop. Looking at what little you've entered in your food diary, you're not just under 1200, but under 1000 sometimes. You have to feed your body to keep it functioning, or it will just shut down. I also see no vegetables and quite a bit of what looks like processed food, which is high in sodium and contains very little in terms of vitamins, minerals, or fibre. Try adding some veges, a piece of fruit a day. That said, your lean protein is looking good, and you're clearly kicking @ss with the exercise! Just keep trucking. =)

Ok thanks for the reply, I've been really not tracking that well (hence the new goal) I just started adding back in foods I couldn't have Nov-January because I was on HCG I had no carbs, no sugar, no proccessed ANYTHING so I have been eating a bit extra prob cause it's "new fun food" hahaha I'll keep better track I realisticly should have been tracking the whole time which would show a MUCH better pic! I'm gonna try a little more 1500-1800 and see where it takes me!

Hi, Congrads on the weight loss. Sorry you are stuck, you must be going mad! Especially with how hard you are working out! R U Sure you have counted all your calories is my first question. Next, I read this and it helped me figure out my calories, it is from kingkeld, a member here. I am currently on around 1200 but am losing, I am sure I will be in your shoes sooner than later.

I personally cannot function below 1500 calories & typically stay up closer to 2,000 per day on average. Keep in mind that if you're working out that much, eating more & paying attention to the quality of/nutrition in your food will fuel your workouts & make them that much more effective in reshaping your body.

Keeping an accurate food diary will not only help you, but it will help us help you if you have questions in the future.

If your not taking in enough calories for what your doing your body will go into shut down mode. I did a search on how much I should eat in order to be 145 lbs. and it said I should eat 1858 cal., carbs between 836-1208 or 45-65%, protein 186-650 or 10-35%, and fat 372-650 or 20-35%. So I am trying to go by this. This is for low activity. You would be able to have much more being more active. This is the website I used http://www.fitnessmagazine.com My search was how many calories should I have? So I'm trying to use this as a guide line.

Well, I'm 5'3 and if I ate 2000 a day, I'd be gaining. I did a few weeks counting 1500 calories and I gained each week. So, your body, your metabolism. Don't cut unless you need to, and if you think you need to cut calories make sure your thyroid and everything else is working properly with a doctor. There are a lot of sites that will contradict each other, how much fat, how much protein.... Find what works for you.

I would probably try around 1500. You could be rebounding from the low caloric intake associated w/ HCG. Your body needs to get used to having more calories and then you should start losing. There was an article that someone posted about following a low calorie diet and not losing weight until they "reset" their body. I'll see if I can locate it. Ok - here is the forum post. The link to the article is in the first post. http://www.fatsecret.com/Community.aspx?pa=fp&m=294417#294417

Also, keep in mind that muscle weighs more than fat, so you might be gaining muscle with your workout, and while you are losing fat to muscle, your weight might not change right away. A better gauge is how your clothes fit, and if you can see that you are becoming more toned.

THANKS everyone for all the great response! Day 3 of "writing" everything down Smile and I'm happy to say the scale was 2 lbs lower today than yesterday I'm fully aware it will prob not be that again in the am but I'm just going to enjoy it hahaha. I should be “reset” off of HCG now I’ve been off the diet and introducing new foods since January 1st. Only time will tell! I’ll check back in later!

Word of advice just so that you don't get confused with misinformation. Muscle does NOT weigh more than fat. That's like the silly math question from middle school, "what weighs more... a hundred pounds of bricks or a hundred pounds of feathers?". It's surprising to me how many adults would be wrong if they were asked the same question regarding fat and muscle. What weighs more, a pound of muscle or a pound of fat? They're both the same! The only difference is that fat is denser than muscle so it takes up more space. That's why taking measurements is a great idea, it's easier to keep track of your progress if you're seeing a measurement difference even if the scale isn't budging.
