So...Almonds are not quite as lowfat as you might think. Gonna take those out of the diet.

You don't have to give them up just watch serving size.

They are not low fat or really low calorie but they are full of nutrients that a body needs. Just stay away from the ones with added salts and flavors.

Almonds have healthy fat as apposed to fat in a french fry. They have calcium ,protein, vit.e, folate, potassium, magnesium, fiber, phosphorus and a lot of other things that I can't remember off hand.

They have no cholesterol.

I try and have nuts, normally almonds but sometimes brazils or walnuts, every day. As said above, while they may not be low calorie they are full of healthy fats and nutrients that are so good for you. Rather than graze at the bag until they're all gone (what I did in my previous life...) I weigh out 100 cals worth and have them as a treat/snack with 100 cals worth of raisins in the afternoon.

I eat more nuts now than I ever did before- great source of healthy fats and some protein, too! The more I read and learn about nutrition, the more convinced I am that there are very few benefits to a low fat diet. The only thing wrong with fat is that it's a dense source of calories, but if you're watching calories already, then you don't have to worry.

Almonds are a staple in my diet, in moderation. Gnat, I agree, low fat is not the way. My intake is 50% carbs, 25% lean proteins and 25% healthy fats.
