Starting Atkins in January!

I think if you have Atkins added as your diet you can see other people post menus and journals entries and interact with people. Quite a few ATkins members on Fat Secret are very active and very supportive.

There are also some Atkins support groups on the board that are posted in regularly.

Words of wisdom.... Follow the plan as described.
I used the 2002 book by Dr. Atkins (Dr. ATkins New Diet Revolution)
And followed the rules of induction and it worked.

My hubby and I are going to do this as well and we just started in here..joined the Biggest Loser challenge which starts in 4 days..we ended up on diff teams..oh well! But yeah I think we are going to go with this diet to start...

I was a big low carb proponent but not so much. I think you should not stay at induction levels of carbs for too long and up carbs as soon as you can. Not to very high levels, say a max of 100g carbs if very active.

Hey everyone - sorry to be the party killer but be careful with the Atkins. Rapid weight loss is undeniable but so are the damages. Making your body rely heavily on one source is always a bad thing and we all say 'its just for now' 'i know when to stop' but it happens and it can go crazy - so please think more closely about what weight loss means to you and whether this is actually worth potential damage...

If you want to find about Atkin Diet problems then the internet is full of the stories and medical encyclopedias.

It is far more important you fit yourself into a long-term and realistic diet than shortcut pathways like the Atkins.

the main problem isn't loosing weight, but keeping the weight low after dieting. so you just have to tell yourself to CHANGE your lifestyle, change your eating habits - and not just for a short term during dieting, but for a lifetime...

I think this is a great diet..its so much easier than counting calories of bland food that you hate putting in your mouth only to find out you really cant consume much at all and end of starving yourself!

There's a world full of healthy, flavorful food, preparations and spices out there- you just have to be open to trying new things and experimenting to break free of your rut. The idea that you can't be satisfied on fewer calories is one of the biggest diet myths out there.

DONT DO ATKINS. I am a college educated personal trainer. you shouldnt do ANY diet. just eat a variety of foods every few hours through out the day. cut carbs later in the day. simple.

Love Atkins WOE! I'm not a chef by any means and my biggest change has been moving away from cereal and toast for all meals. Its been so easy! Granted a lot of what I've been eating have been not so cohesive as far as a meal plan but still filling and tasty. The actual menus will come sooner or later with help from the great recipes on here.

Another tip - plan ahead. I make out a weekly dinner menu and shopping list, plus buy several standards for breakfasts, lunches, and snacks - eggs for boiling, cans of tuna, cheese strings, raw celery, cucumber, pork rinds, etc. The first few days prepare a couple extra snacks just in case you feel munchy. After a few days, you'll notice you stay full a long time and won't eat as much naturally.
