Well Im in day four of induction and thought we were only counting net carbs but noticed people are also counting protein and fat intake as well as calories. Is this necessary? Are we allowed to have sugar free jello on induction? and On the website is says to take a supplement of omega3 fatty acid, why is this important and can I cake omega 3-6-9 complex instead?

Mygoal, some people have issues with sugar free items, some do not. You are allowed to have them, but no more than 3 per day but if you find you are not losing weight or stall, ditch the artificial stuff first when you tweek your plan. The site automatically tracks fat and calories, I suppose you could edit your setting to not show these things, but on Atkins it is helpful to see if you are eating correctly. Down at the bottom of your food log is a pie chart. You should be looking to hit 10 percent carbs, 60-70 percent fat and 20-30 percent protein. If you don't eat enough fat you may be hungry or may not lose fast because your body might assume you are starving. You don't need to count those items, but being aware of them helps you figure out what works and what doesn't work.

I've never taken vitamins or suppliments on Atkins, but I'm in the minority. I have issues with pills so I prefer my vitamins come from food.

No problem mygoal. Everyone here is on a learning curve, some are just beginning, while others have been learning for awhile. Let me tell you though, even after 9 months I'm still learning.

This is day 1 for me. I am gonna need alot of motivation. I havent physically been in shape since 2007. Phycically i am restricted to only 5lbs on the left arm due to an injury/surgery & working on getting my range of motion back before strength training can begin. I lack MOTIVATION, my husband trys to encourage me but like most (i hope i am not the only one) I need motivation from someone else that is positve 100% with the honesty (does that make sense?) Any suggestions ? oh & I CAN NOT do sugar free items, they make me sick & give me headaches.

I hear ya wrestling about the motivation. All i got from hubby (no matter when i was 195 or now at 135) you look fine. So while it's nice to have that unconditional love, it's not exactly helping you with your current desire. Motivation is a funny thing. For some people it has to be internal or it will never work. That's me, I could have my doctor and my friends and everyone under the sun tell me I need to lose weight, but it didn't do any good cause I wasn't ready to face the battle. I didn't want it bad enough. Others seem to do fine with motivation from others and little of their own motivation. They come here and ask their buddies to watch them, kick em in the butt if they notice them slipping. All I know is nobody but me is going to make me exercise at 630 in the morning. Wrestling you are probably better off that you cannot tolerate the sugar free items, once you get over your initial cravings you should be good. For me, if sugar free chocolates didn't exist, I'm not sure I could have stuck to this WOE as long as I have.

I have a question. I have been counting total carbs instead of net carbs. When i count net carbs, my weight loss slows down to a crawl. What do the rest of you count?

tajajo - most people count .net, some (like myself) count total. I came to understand that my system is very carb intolerant. So things like artificial sweetners, and sugar alcohols either caused me to stall...or actually, to gain.

Eventually as I moved into owl and on into maintenance, I did subtract just the fiber grams in veggies only! This opened up a wider variety of veggies in normal serving sizes and this helped me greatly.

hope that helps answer your question...good luck.

JS - I find the same thing. I find that artificial sweeteners cause a stall. I also count total.

With the omega 3 question, we usually get way too much omega 6 - more than we need esp if consuming seed oils or nuts... I would stick to supplementing with omega 3 or having lots of oily fish.
It’s not perfection–it’s persistence in the pursuit of being healthy. If you stumble and fall, then you simply get back up again and start anew. That’s what makes this journey one worth taking day in and day out. The bottom line is this: NEVER EVER GIVE UP and keep going even when you think it’s just not worth it anymore. IT IS! ~Jimmy Moore
