It's hard to tell, since I can't see your diet calendar.

What kinds of things are you drinking?

hi, I have now opened up my diary for all to see. Tonight i had a couple of bottle of elderflower and lime cider. i normally tend to drink vodka and mixer or smirnoff ice. Any help that can be given would be much appreciated

A glass of wine will tend to be in the range of around 120 calories per glass. Some cocktails are relatively low-calories-- I had a manhattan the other night, and that was around 125 calories I think.

Here are some cocktails and calorie counts: http://www.fatsecret.com/calories-nutrition/search?q=cocktail

I try to eat a low-calorie fiber filled breakfast/lunch/dinner if I chose to spend calories on alcohol. (oh and I do choose!) Things like oatmeal, fresh vegetables, beans... I'm currently a brown rice with hot sauce addict.

Hope that helps!

Wine spritzers, diet soda and whatever you choose, light beer. At home you can try mixing flavored waters or crystal light with vodka or tequila or rum?

Just some suggestions - I personally go for the beer b/c I get 8-12 ounces and its under 100 calories. It is usually in place of an evening snack. If I don't have the extra calories for it, then I don't indulge.

Crystal light is a powder like Kool-Aid without all the calories and sugar. The individual packets run about 10 calories and come in tons of flavors.

i stick with plain vodka, plain seltzer (club soda) & a slice of lemon and lime - not lime juice because they will give you highly caloric rose's lime juice. generally the vodka shots average around 60 calories an ounce. it's the calorie conscious bartender's go-to drink around here. i call my drinks about 100 calories per small glass to account for heavier pours. i have two at happy hour once a week and adjust down my meals for the day accordingly. on cheat day i have as many as i please. at first it's not so tasty, but after your palate adjusts all else seems so sugary and nasty. i find the plain citrus makes the vodka taste rather pleasant. over time you start to notice the difference more between varying vadka brands and qualities.

Wow. I'm not the only one who likes to drink while trying to lose weight. Since I love beer, I just factor it into my RDI and enter truthful numbers in my diary. I don't open my diary because of all the beer entered (sort of embarrassed about it)--but the RDI is working for me.

They've developed a ranking system on what drinks get you the most bang for your calorie buck. lol Seriously though, try drinking wine or wine spritzers (wine+seltzer), vodka tonics, or bacardi and diet soda. They're all pretty good ones if you are going to have a drink. Also trying alternating in a glass of water in between your alcohol so that way you are giving your body time to process the alcohol and also rehydrating yourself. Smile Cheers.

@Rhomer23: I'm with ya on the beer, but even worse, I drink only craft beer (typically higher in calories and carbs). I still manage to do fine as long as, like you, I'm honest with tracking and adjust my day's food choices accordingly. Beer is food, right? Wink (JUST KIDDING)

You can also up your activity level...earlier in the day (double your workout) to pay for your indulgences...or go out somewhere where there is a dance floor.

I suspect this won't be popular with most with mention of sweet sugary drinks but Guinness is relatively low calorie, contains a little protein, is filling, and takes a while to drink - ie when my tablemates have downed 2 shots of vodka I'm about halfway through my pint. Good source of iron for anyone who exercises a lot, too. +1 for craft beers, too, although they go down a lot more quickly.
