I am probably going to be looking for a new phone and was hoping to get some feedback from those here about likes/dislikes & how FS works on the Blackberry, Android, Iphone etc. I have an old Blackberry that needs a software update and I'm trying to decide if it's even worth it. (FS and other programs have stopped working on it.) I hope you all can help. Smile Thanks!

I have an android phone and it is very frustrating to me because for about the last 3 months or so my FS app is not working so well. I cannot add multiple items to my daily food diary and it is very slow so I haven't been keeping track of my daily intake because of this. I have tried rebooting my phone numerous times and am searching for a Fat Secret application update and now I can't even find the original app in my market place. Is there no longer a Fat Secret app or what???? Sorry I don't think its your phone, I think something is up with the application. Wish I could have been more help.

Thanks for your input! I first noticed the FS issue with my phone when I tried to download the new version in March. I contacted them and after doing some checking, they couldn't find any problem. At the time I didn't even know about the website online-I just had not looked. I've been using the computer to log my foods ever since. It wasn't a huge issue until I tried to renew my weather channel subscription and the phone would not let me. My son has an android but it isn't one that is available anymore so I don't know if it might be the same as yours. He likes it but has never tried to use FS on it. I just don't want to get a phone that will not allow me to use the FS app if at all possible. I never thought I'd look at anything but my BB but it's becoming a bit ridiculous and annoying not to be able to use my phone for everything I want.
Again thanks!

I also thought I would never leave the bb family, but droid is so much better! I have already found more on my droid in less than a month than I ever did in over 2 years on my bb. I have the thunderbolt from verizon, was able to get the fs app with no problem at all. I have not started my plan yet so I am not using it daily yet, but I did play around a bit learning how it works and was easily able to sync to the computer account.

I found the app by searching for fatsecret, but it is actually labeled "caloriecounter".

Thanks Niecee! That's very helpful! My BB is about 3-4 years old. Ancient by most standards I suppose. Do the droid phones have a specific website that lists what apps are available? BB app world is what I'm familiar with but at the moment it won't even load. Thanks for the info!

Search for "android app market".

One thing that's extremely important to me is a physical keyboard. I find it very difficult to type on a soft keyboard. More importantly, I can't stand how much of the screen real estate the soft keyboard takes.

I have an original Droid, and it's been a fabulous rock-solid phone for a year and a half. The battery life is very good, though I can kill it by the end of the day with very heavy usage. I just bought a spare battery and charger ($15) because I'm headed to Vegas for the World Series of Poker soon, and I know that means very heavy phone usage for me.

I don't use the app much, though... I prefer the web interface.

I run the app on my SE Experia X10 android phone and it works great. It's called 'Calorie Counter' in the Android market. My wife just downloaded it yesterday for her android. It works great, sync's with the website automatically. Zero complaints. I'm in IT and i'd strongly recommend android for your next phone but go with a high-end phone...not one of the zero dollar phones with your provider. It will be worth the initial money to get a fast, solid phone.

Good luck.

I have absolutely NO problems on my android. I just my phone app about 90% of my fatsecret time, and I love it. I lost over 120 lbs because of it. Nothing is slow, it's easy to find in the market (just search for "fatsecret"Wink and it works just fine. Just make sure you have an internet connection, as it is essential for the app to work.

No issues w/ syncing with my iphone. The only thing I don't like is that there's no journaling capabilities with the app (to view or add) and I can't add food items from my cookbook. Beyond that, its a great way to keep track on the go. Oh, the app also struggles if you don't have a strong or consistent signal- it will timeout and then have trouble connecting to the server when you do have a good signal.

No problems synching with my BB Bold or the Tour before that. Again, no journaling capabilities, just food and exercise diaries, diet calendar and weight tracking, and food search. Enough for my purposes when "in the field."

By the way, I think there's a generic all-clients bug that causes information on FS to be lost the first time you sync a mobile app. I've seen lots of reports of that here.

i have the original droid and it runs awesome on my phone no issues at all.....the app on the blackberry is not nearly as easy to use you need a real smartphone to get the bar code scanning ability which is nice.

I have a kyocera Echo. Which is a dual screen Android phone. I use fatsecret on it and it works good. It does not get along well with the table mode on the dual screen, but it is pretty easy to use and fairly quick on the 3G network. And the bar code scanner just really makes packaged food easy to deal with.

I have an Android based phone, I love it. I'm a computer person anyway, so I prefer how customizable Android is. I am loving the FS app! It's not perfect, but plenty good enough ... I can certainly use it to log some of my food while I'm out which is helpful. (Although sometimes I can't find items that when I search on the computer I can? Hate that.) I also like the barcode scanner thing OK, sometimes it's just easier than trying to find the item. Oh, and also I love how it instantly syncs, very helpful.

The FS app works great on my droid. I use the virtual keyboard most of the time, the hard keyboard sometimes, the "voice" mode and especially the barcode scanner on the faySecret app. They all work great with the FS app. I also have had no problems with it being in sync with my pc. The droid and FS has made this diet the easiest so far. Good luck!!

Thank all of you for so much helpful information! I haven't been online this week because I had a gallbladder attack and surgery. Home today and more determined than ever to purchase a new phone! My BB at times this week wouldn't even let me online without making an issue of it. Lousy timing! Again so many thanks for all your info!!! Smile
