Mostly for the women......what clothing size to you aspire to be? It is always discouraging to me when other women talk about wanting to be a size 2 or 4 or 6....... I would be thrilled to be a 10 or even 12! I am tall...5'10".

So---what size are you truly happy with?

Men--are 2 and 4 sized women your ideal?

Just curious...I can never be a 2 or 4 or 6 unless I was ill. I also would never aspire to be so--even if the man in my life wanted me to, which he does not!

I am 5'9", and have never been smaller than a 9. That is what size I was back in 1999. Looking back at the pictures, I can't believe it's me. I go in the stores now and look at what size I was up to a 15/16, and hold up a 9 to them. I would be happy with a 9, I think.

I'm with Kat - I'm also 5'9", and many moons ago when I was a senior in high school, I weighed 145 and look SOOOOO skinny! Funny thing is - back then (1974) at that weight I was wearing a 13/14. If I were that weight now, I'd probably be wearing an 8. Clothing sizes have definitely gone down in the past 30 years! Not so sure this is a good or bad thing. Anyhoo - I'm currently a size 12, but weigh 175. Can't wait to see what I'll be wearing when I reach goal of 160. Smile

I'm about to my goal weight/size right now and am anywhere from a 12 to a 15, depending on the store/brand/cut/etc.

I have HIPS. I will NEVER be a 2,4,6, or 8. I used to aspire to be a 10, but I've come to accept that will probably not happen until vanity sizing gets even worse.
mini goals:
170 - 50 pounds gone! (reached October 2, 2010)
155 - no longer overweight! (reached January 22, 2011)
145 - 75 Pounds gone! (reached May 14, 2011)
135 - ultimate goal weight!

I would consider it to be a HUGE achievement if I could make it down to an 8. (A modern 8, fully acknowledging that vanity sizing is way out of control!) Until recently, I probably wouldn't have thought I could get there, but I've lost just under 20 of the 40 I have to lose and have a pair of size 12 calvin klein jeans that fit great- with another 20, who knows what might be possible? I'm trying hard to stay in the "I can!" mindset, rather than falling back into "I can't" and scaling down my goals.

another hip girl here! An 8 in jeans. most of my jeans and pants are at ten but some of my capris, and skirts are 8's. In high school I was an 6 and got back down to that a couple years ago and husband said that is too small for me. It's nice to say I'm not too far from that cuz after my last baby I was a size 16!

I really have no hips, but I'd like to be a 9/10 again. I'm not sure how that would equate in today's sizes. My teenage daughter is a size 8 and she can't fit into any of my highwaisted jeans. (And yes, I kept my favorite jeans from the 90's - I know they are out of style, but they are the only type of jeans my butt ever looked good in.)

I am a pear shape also. My hips are huge, but I know they can be smaller. They were before. I used to think they would never be smaller, but I know they can, they were before.

I think I'd like to be the size 6 (I've kept my old jeans too) I was before my daughter was born in 1986. Currently wearing a 12 dress pants and a 10 in jeans. I wonder what size I would be now if I fit into those old jeans. Truthfully, I just want to look good in my jeans regardless of the size.

Funny, I just posted this in my journal yesterday, but I bought a pair of jeans online (size Cool and they turned out to be a lot tighter than I thought (I'm 5'7"Wink. I have another pair of 8's from that brand that fit fine, so I don't know what's up, but now I have something to work towards because they're super cute! I think the brand may run some styles bigger than the label says, but if I can fit better into these new 8's I'll be really happy!

I have hips. I have a chest. At my goal of 145, I'll be a 12-14 and generally an L - XL in tops/shirts. When I was a long 'n lean adolescent, I was in size 8's briefly, but as soon as I matured a bit more, they were history.

I'd be emaciated and look sick if I were ever to be in a 2-4-6 range! And even then, I'm not sure I could do it!!!

What an interesting thread!!!! I'm in a 12 now at 176 and fit into some of my tens... If I keep workin out I'll be a solid 10 by my goal weight of 165... 8 was my dream size only bc it was a single digit but honestly i looked good in a 10.

Hipster here too! I am shooting for the magic 10 dress pant from 5 years ago, size 8 jeans - same period! I remember when I last wore them, I thought I was fat then! Vanity sizes considered, not sure what that would equate to now. At this point, I am more of the mind-set to see what happens & how this WOE goes, (I can't believe I am saying that, but glad I am), as I am about how I think I look & how I feel!

At 162 I fit into size 12. At my thinnest 133 I was wearing size 8 and medium size shirts. I hope to get back to size 8, but I don't ever think i'd be 7 or lower...I'm a shorty at 5ft 2in, and on top, I can't get into smaller than medium due to being 38C/D evening weighing 133

I've got pretty big hips and wear about a size 8 depending on the brand and how much I've eaten in a given week Smile I'm 5'8" and 138 lbs. 8 was never really my goal size. At my largest size (18/20) my goal was to be a 12, but my body kept getting smaller. I don't think I could get much smaller than a 6, unless I became incredibly ill or broke my hips...

WHen I was a kid (I am now 60) I can still remember there was an ad that the tag line was "size 10 is where the fun is"!! I would be just fine with 12, thank you!

I am currently a size 6/4 and I am a small in tops - I'd like to be more of a 4/2 because I am just about 5'1" and I think that's more appropriate for someone with my figure. I am happy now though when I can get into size 4 pants or jeans - I actually even own a skirt in a size 2 that I've purchased recently. Hopefully, when I drop this last bit of weight, I'll be in the sizes I want to be. And maybe my mind will catch up to my body, who knows Smile

I am hoping for size 10 when I am at my goal weight but we will see. After my divorce I was a size 6 due to all of the stress but I have not thoughts of getting there again. I am hoping for 10 mostly because I have lots of work clothes I could start wearing again.

Oh, gotta love vanity sizing...just since the 90s, clothing manufacturers have inscreased how big a size 8 is or a size 10. I saw an article about Gap jeans and just in the past 10yrs or so, their size 8 has increased over an inch in the waist band. But think about it, what brand are you going to buy? The one where you fit a 10 or the one where you fit an 8? There ya go. I literally have a pair of 4s, 6s, 4s, 8s & 9s all different brands that all fit the same. I'll go by brand...LEI jeans anything size 7 or 5, I would LOVE to fit in! American Eagle, Old Navy...I'd like to wear a 4. Overall, I would like to go no larger than a 7 for jeans.

Yes, vanity sizing is crazy. I am 5'9" too and around my goal weight at 125 after kicking my butt for several months. J Crew thinks I'm a size 2 Tall even when I'm 15+ lbs heavier, which is nuts. At my very thinnest (and sickest at 105 lbs) in 2001 I wore size 5's at most stores but was a 7 or 9 when well and skinny (around what my current weight is). So I stick with jean sizing for my happy sizes - a 27 or 28 in whatever fancy jean brand you like (though I can't necessarily afford to buy the jeans I'm happy to fit into). I'm pretty happy with my express size 4's now but I still wouldn't order properly sized dresses online that way. I learned this from my own and others' bridal gown and bridesmaid dress orders lately. Half the reason the reason I needed to get in rapid shape after February was to squeeze into a size 6 bridesmaid dress I had foolishly ordered without trying it on so I wouldn't have to buy a new one! No returns. Thankfully, I have had to have it altered down 3 times now do to diet/exrcize efforts. Smile
