Hi All
I have just started on Induction on Atkins ( 4th day today )and am doing really well, sticking to it religiously and not feeling hungry at all, in fact I feel fantastic ! So far I have lost 5 lbs
My only worry is , am I getting enough calcium by not drinking milk, I am over 50 now so osteoporosis could be a problem
Has anyone any thoughts on the subject ?

Welcome and so glad to hear you are feeling great. Calcium shouldn't be a problem with creams and cheese, but if you want take a calcium tab. Extra sure won't hurt. Great job on the 5 pounds and best of luck on your journey.Smile

You are still getting calcium from any cheese products you are eating. In addition, many veggies (bean sprouts, broccoli, romaine lettuce, spinach, etc.) contain calcium, as do some seafoods like shrimp and flax seed (legal on induction). I am also over 50. The first foods I added back after I got back off induction was almonds (good source of calcium as well as beneficial oils). Even after all that I occasionally take a suppliment.

Have you talked to your doc about it at all? I would definitely take a calcium supplement, just to be safe. I have a strong family history of it and believe me, its nothing to mess with. It would just not be worth the risk to me when the supplements are so readily availabile. A women's multivitamin will contain about half your day's calcium and if you take an additional supplement beyond that, you'll know you're covered and any additional calcium from your food will be a bonus (or not, b/c the suggested intake for women is actually a bit higher). Just make sure you don't take them at the same time, since your body can only absorb so much at once.
