Dr. Atkins or new Docs???

Hey All! I've been looking at how some people are doing induction. I find that most people are following the new version of Atkins. I, however am following Dr. Atkins book right before he died. In that book it says to count total carbs and not net carbs (like the newest version says). I, for one, trust Dr. Atkins with my life, health, and weight loss, cuz so far he has done me no harm. I don't trust the doctors that have created the newest version because, let's face it, they aren't Dr. Atkins. So therefore, they may be a little bit biased on the health issues. Any insight as to why I should?

Other than the research has made a few improvements, there is no reason why one won't work over the other.
** Goal 1- 20 pounds- 4/30/2013
** Goal 2- get back down to wearing size 16 jeans
** Goal 3- normal blood pressure
** Goal 4- well below "One" Derland
** Goal 5- 600 miles this year in 200 mile increments
** Goal 6- Decreased back and knee pain

I'm following the older book too, the "New Diet Revolution". I've got the 2nd publishing, and I understood it to count net carbs. That's also what the Atkins site says to count. I've been on induction for 2weeks & 2days, and have so far lost 6lbs & 11inches, and I've not been following it STRICTLY. I've slipped a few times (like, a slice of pie), which is why I'm still in induction. From what I understand from the Atkins site's community boards, alot of them are following the new book, but have also read the older one. The way I take it, is that the new book just has more science to back up Dr. Atkins' original claims. It's obvious that the older book still works though, I wouldn't have lost if it didn't. I do have to say though, I only have the older book because I couldn't find the new one.

DANDAR (the 02) version and last book by Dr.Atkins, used net carbs. He referred to them as "the carbs that count" and we were instructed to subtract the fibre. Check the back of your book to see the carb counts given to verify this.

Basically, the only differences in the new book is that they changed the carb ladder a bit, coffee is on the allowed list, they say that coffee, tea and soda is ok to count as water, they have added in five new vegetables, they make the vegetable carbs amount more clear (12 to 15 net), and say "make it your own" a lot Smile

I started with DANDAR and still go by that, but there is not a big change in the actual plan in NANY.

I know there are people that have used either method and they all seem to do the trick. Its whatever you get used to or have available. I wouldn't sweat it. You'll lose if you follow the plan. (Whichever one that might be.)

Ahh, yes , the old one that came out in the 70's , eat as much meat and fat as you want and don't worry about the calories. We really enjoyed our steaks and bacon back then I'll tell you. ...
