Today is the first i have done the Julian Michaels 30 day shred. I thought I was going to die/puke in the middle but I kept going. I want to record this into my exercise/fitness section but I don't know how many calories its supposed to burn in the exercise 1. Can anyone help me?

I've recorded it as 20 minutes of circuit training. It seems about right to me. Good luck!

I record it as circuit training as well, but I log 30 minutes as that is how long my DVD player tells me the workout is.

That thing kicked my ass. I normally do an hour of hardcore cardio on an exercise bike. I also hike and can knock out 20 mile days no problem. I thought I would do that program as cross training and I couldn't finish the beginner part and could hardly walk for two days.

Congrats to anyone who can do that thing. I may try it again after my biggest loser contest is over tomorrow but right now I can't afford to take days off to recover.

Everyone I know says the same thing as Fredmugs about that DVD. I think people must be jumping into it and doing the Natalie version right off the bat, going all the way down into the lunges and squats as opposed to the modified version. I had barely started exercising when I began this DVD, and I never hurt as badly as I hear other people say they do. I was probably just easing into it gradually, because I've been doing it for 3 weeks now and I'm just not hurting. I feel it, definitely, and now that I've been doing it a while and am able to go all the way down on the squats and lunges I really do feel it much more. Maybe you need to start out taking baby steps with that thing, because she really is brutal.

LOL - I have been doing it for well over a month at this point! I promise you, I was in the same boat as everyone else at first- my first time I had to stop and rest constantly and I needed a couple of days to recouperate before I could even think of trying again! If it kicks your butt at first and you can't move, take a day or two off, then get back into it. Do as much as you can and if you keep pushing yourself to do a bit more as you can handle it, you'll find that you DO get much stronger very quickly. I also keep my remote handy and take a break as I need to- I don't feel bad if I pause the workout, since I'm still doing it all in the end. Over time, you can push yourself to stop less often and for shorter periods of time.

It does get results, though. Fredmugs, like you, I was doing pretty intense cardio before the shred and I'm amazed at the difference it has made- how much stronger I am, how much my endurance has improved across the board, and at the inches I'm seeing come off my arms, thighs, etc. I've ramped up the resistance I used on the elliptical and am now able to run at a faster pace then ever before. Keep at it and feel free to curse Gillian and her sidekicks out as necessary - once you start seeing the changes, you'll want to keep going Wink

I did it again last night but didn't feel quite as bad while I was doing it but not only did I do the 30 day shred but I also did 200 squats. I'm feeling it today. It hurt so bad, but like you all said I just went in and did it, not a gradual thing and it put me down. I walked around work today like I was on my last leg. I'm going to give it a rest for today but be back at it tomorrow. Can't wait.

When I first started doing the DVD, I would alternate with other DVD's. I think that might be why it didn't hurt me so badly. When I worked on other DVD I would work different muscle groups. And now when I go back to that Denise Austin DVD, it makes me sore as hell for a day or too just like the Shred did in the beginning. I guess it's what your muscles get used to, which to me, is a good reason for rotating DVD's.
