New to Atkins

I bought the book yesterday and read a few chapters last night. It seems so radically different from everything we've been taught. I'm scared and fascinated. I think I will start Sunday (I'm still doing Fat Smash this week).

Any advice, tips or tricks about the side effects and the diet would be appreciated.

Sounds familiar. My wife sent away for the free starter kit, and I read through the material over the weekend. I just started on Monday. My plan is to stick with the Induction phase as hardcore as possible (so far, so good). I've decided to look at this as a project that I can study for, work on and hopefully do well. I'm going to keep my diet calendar, journal and weight updated throughout. We'll see!

Here's a few tips:
read the book, take notes, read it again and really understand this WOE.
Eat only the foods on the induction list of acceptable foods.
Drink your water.
Visit the atkins.com - support - forum and ask questions when you have them. You can also learn a lot just from reading the forum posts and different areas of the site.
Track what you eat here on the food diary, set to show net carbs. To know you are getting the 12 - 15 net carbs, list all veggies, regardless of when you eat them under snacks. This will give you a running total. List any non-veggie snacks elsewhere.

to make it appear, go to your MyFatSecret homepage. On the right hand side, scroll down to the My Toolbox section. Select 'my signature" On that page, select add ticker to my Fatsecret signature and then press save.

it gets kinda hard to wrap your head around being able to eat fatty foods and not being able to eat fruits..esp when you were on a low fat diet and ate a lot of fruits and whole grains like I did.

I'm still struggling, however, I have lost a lot of inches..I exercise 2hours a day and am following atkins..but I know I am still eating more calories than I should..but when you drop 3 pant sizes and your clothes fit better and you have tons of energy, I guess the scales aren't that all fired important to me anymore

However, I went to your food journal and looking at the one day where you say you recorded everything - you only have 6 net carbs of vegetables. Being in OWL you should be eating 17 - 20 net carbs of vegetables, throughout the day, not just at lunch. That never changes as you go up the carb ladder. Maybe it was just the one day???

You said you are struggling - What are you struggling with?

Hi may1878-I have done Atkins before and I am doing it a second time. The first time I did it, I was too dumb to realize that it is a lifestyle change and not a short term thing...I am ready to do it again and I would love to be your buddy....I'm seasoned with Atkins so if you ever need advice I can help you...and vice versa Smile Cheers.
