Wonder how many calories are burned in one hour of Zumba dance class. Just wonder if it is more than 5 miles on the elpitical machines. I burn according to the input of 620-650 per 60 minutes?

I think it probably depends on your height, weight, and activity level with Zumba, but my heart rate monitor logs anywhere from 650-800 calories per one hour class. It's at the low end when I am tired or not really in the mood to work out LOL...

I have the same results as Raelene, and I weigh quite a deal more. But average 700 per hour, and it's much more fun than an hour on the elliptical trainer

Love Zumba, the instructor did tell me you can burn between 700 and 1000 calories in an hour. The class in my town is getting so crowded on Thursday nights, I am afraid I might take an elbow to the eye because everyone stands so close!

Various brands of heart rate monitors will track calories burned, like the one Raelene talked about. I'm not sure of the accuracy, but I would imagine you have to input your weight, and maybe other factors as well, in order to get a proper calculation. I'm looking into these HRMs now, as I'd like to know calories burned when I'm doing some non-standard exercises. HRMs can be ordered online or are available at most sporting goods stores. I think someone else also talked about a BodyFit monitor???

I got my heart rate monitor at Dick's Sporting Goods. It is a Polar FT7 and I did have to put in my height, weight, birthdate. It has a strap that you wear around your chest and then the watch type part for your rist. Do research them as there are so many on the market. I also hear BodyFit and BodyBugg are supposed to be great. The Polar FT7 is more for use while you are working out..I think the BodyBugg you actually can wear all day/night and it tracks your resting rate calories too.

I do zumba and I wear a calorie meter thingy with chest strap. Its made by timex and I have caliburated it. I burn between 900 and 1450 calories!! Yes totally true! Although it probably helps that I visit different zumba classes each time with different zumba instructors! Its soo much fun I recommend it to everyone!!

Odometer is for the auto and pedometer, the ped part of the word is for walking. Use the pedometer when you go for a walk.

Best time for doing exercise, morning or night?
I prefer to exercise in the morning too. Partly because by the time evening rolls around, I'm worn out (two toddlers will do that to you) and partly because I just know me. If I get up at 5:30am, ...

Even though fat doesn't count in Atkins, it can cause you to gain or not lose weight if you consume too much. Be careful of over eating this nutrient. ie: cream, cream cheese.
