Have you heard of the FIT BIT? it's this thing that is a mini pedometer/calorie burned via exercise and daily walking calculator that is really neat. I own one and use it mainly for the motivation purpose. check it out at fitbit.com...it's cheaper than the body bugg by like hundreds...and they have better customer service. and NO I don't work for them, I have been a loyal fatsecret member and thought people would like to know this device exists!

My hubby bought me a watch that does all this from walmart for about 40 dollars. It doesn't hook up to a computer but if I want to record info all I have to do is jot it down. It works great though

1) Anyone else have any experience with the FIT BIT/have any pros and cons to share?

2) What's the brand of the watch? (I've been looking for a combo watch-tracker for a bit)

One of the great things about the fit bit is how it tracks sleep. I want one for the winter as I am going to try and gain some muscle and sleep is extremely important for both muscle building and fat burn. My guess is the watch doesn't track that.

What's it track in your sleep?
Atm I'm not wearing it so can't tell you brand and all it does lol. I know it does steps taken , cal burned and heart rate while working out vs resting. Just don't remember the rest.

I have a FitBit and really enjoy it. It's basically a really high-tech pedometer that uses a lot of data to make the calorie burn count really accurate. It has its own food and activity website much like FatSecret, but I don't like the food log tool much and the community there isn't terribly strong. All the same, having true exercise and calorie burn data is awesome, and I use it to fill in my FS exercise log, and since I can wear it all day every day it helps me set my RDI more accurately.

The sleep feature is great, too. It comes with a wrist sleeve that you wear it in during sleep. It tracks your movements and indicates how well you sleep. It is really fascinating.

Besides the huge price difference, another comparison with BodyBugg is the size--the FitBit is tiny! I wear it clipped to my bra all day long. No one has any idea it is there.

My only complaint so far has been that it has trouble syncing with the Mac....I've been told that this has been fixed in a software update. I just downloaded that tonight so I guess I'll find out. If you are in the market for a calorie tracker, I highly recommend!

Thanks for the review!!! I have looked at both the FitBit and Body Bug and haven't actually purchased one. I think I will order the FitBit now! I have really wanted something that will tell me how many calories I actually burn. I love FS for tracking calories consumed but know that the activity tracker really depends on the individual. I have a heart rate monitor but hate wearing the chest strap! This sounds better. I can at least compare the two and see how accurate the FitBit is. Thanks again.

Good news--I just updated the software, and it looks like the Mac patch is working. I'm worried that it might still be a little tricky with the computer's sleep mode, but if all else fails a restart with the base plugged in seems to get it to sync.

I definitely like FS's calorie tracker better, so rather than use their website I just take the burn data and move it over here. For a while I created a food in their food journal called "FatSecret Food" and just entered my final FS number for the whole day. That worked, too. At least their website is free!

I heard about the body bugg and wanted to get one but settled for a cheap watch from Walmart. I hate it because I constantly have to press this button to get it to track my heart rate and I'm not thinking about hitting a button when I'm at the gym.

I'm going to look up the fit bit! Thanks for the suggestion!

To those of you who purchased this - keep us posed on your thoughts after using it. There were more bad reviews on this than good reviews, So I am hesitant.

Any mashups to integrate fitbit with fatsecret yet? I'd love to get the fitbit- but how easy it to enter the numbers into fatsecret at the end of the day?

I love my fitbit because it keeps me motivated to keep exercising! It is a great tool for a better idea of my RDI too. I use the sleep pattern every night. I don't care much for the food log, so I still log all my food here at FS, then just type in my total calorie intake into fitbit. I wish it was a heart rate monitor too, but other than that, I absolutely love it!

How does the fitbit track your heartrate? Does it require a monthly subscription to the website?
