red and green arrows?

i feel dumb for asking this but i have been on fs for a while and when i am recording food and exercise, on the diet calendar there are always arrows either green or red...what do they mean? if someone could please explain that would be great!

Green means you have a deficit of calories and red means you ate more calories than you burned.

I was able to create my own recipe once. Now when I try to create one it doesn't register it. Any suggestions.
