I have done this for 10 days and will continue forever. I stay motivated because I am sick and tired of being fat. My motivation is mostly coming from the fact that my thin husband and I will be going on a cruise in April and I will be healthy enough to do all the excursions he wants. You have done it once....you can do it again. You just have to want it really bad!

It's been about 7 months for me now, and somewhere around month 5, my motivation started to lag. (Note, I've hovered around the same 5 pounds for the last 2 months, after losing 45 pounds the first 5... ) A lot of what has kept me going is just sheer determination to keep going. Especially now that the "feel good" moments are further apart... the joy of stepping on the scale and seeing the numbers dropping away kept me going for a while. Now, everyday, I write a list of like 5 or 10 things that have improved, or reasons that I keep doing this. because it does get frustrating to do the right things day in and day out and still be in the same spot... so i have to convince myself that i am NOT still in the same spot, even though the numbers don't show it. (For example, i can now walk both faster and longer than my son's father...and 7 months ago, i was constantly half a block behind him, without the wind to even ask him to slow down!) That, and I give myself small gifts... not always at a mile stone, but because i did the work to earn it... like, trips to the bookstore without my son everytime i completely a 4 week exercise schedule. Or a long bath and a night of not cleaning up when I've had a particularily good week of eating. =). Little gifts go a long way! (Note, i plan them in advance... that way, i have something to work towards.)

It's funny, I was just talking about this to my fiancé. He can't comprehend the whole thing of weight loss and how sometimes it's hard to stay focused. That after the initial first few months, it's easy, but after that it takes really dedication to keep up with it. I have a lot of different things to motivate me. When I feel like I'm losing focus, sometimes I need several things to remind why I'm doing this and why that extra slice of pizza just isn't worth it. Smile

One: I'm tired of being overweight, I don't want to crop certain areas of me in the picture because it makes me look too fat.

Two: I don't want to just shop in the plus sizes, I want to shop in all the stores! I love shopping and the fact that I have to keep finding smaller sizes now.

Three: Family. I want to have kids soon and I know I need to be healthier to make this happen.

Four: My wedding next year, I have this vision on how I want to look and I'm going to stick with it.

Five: To prove all the haters and jealous people out there that I can do it!!

Six: Measurements. I love measuring myself once a month and see how many inches I've lost!

Seven: The scale. I monitor my weight on a daily basis, if I'm seeing it creeping up, I know something is wrong. I regroup and push forward.

I have been at this a long time. I would love to lose the weight faster than slower.. but I have decided that this time it is forever.. I will never go back to my old way of life. I am not going fast.. but I am much better off than when I started. When I hit the doldrums the first thing I do is look through cook books to try and find new healthy foods options.. I find new tasty flavors really ward off boredom. I also try to remember how miserable I was when I started.. and how much happier I am now.. not even half way there and already my life is much better.. I also have 2 small kids.. and I want to live a long time and be as healthy as I can be.. also the statistics of obesity in children with overweight parents are staggering... so as a parent I really want to try and stack the deck in my kids favor. That's what I love about this site! Somebody on here is going through what you're going through or have gone through it. We're all here to cheer and support one another. It comes in handy when, in real life, there aren't a lot of people to confide to. Like for me, I either have someone that doesn't understand what I'm going through, people that are jealous and are bitter towards you because they can't lose weight, or people that just want to focus on themselves and screw everybody else. This site is what keeps me focused! Smile

Nicole--I know exactly how you feel! This was supposed to be MY summer where I would go back to work in the fall as a transformed person. I gained 8 pounds! I'm so disgusted with myself but I still find myself planning the next naughty meal. I believe that weight loss is 95% mental and 5% diet and exercise. When I'm in the 95% mental zone, I can drop weight like water. When I'm not, it's a constant, self-defeating cycled.
I bought a new scale yesterday, one that measures body fat, OMG! That was an eye-opener. I'm hoping it might jolt me back into the zone. I'm not giving up. I have 8 months until I'm 40 and I'm determined to be thin by then.
Good luck to you Nicole. You are not alone.

Hi All
HI welcome to the site.. I think both gentlemen have it pretty correct. I have stuff public and I have a long way to go. I figured I would make it public since we all are here for pretty much the reasons. ...

This is a good starting point, but you really need an exercise plan to maximize the results. Even if it is just walking. Get moving!
