As expected, I'm seeing lots of "Oh, I ate X, Y, and Z and I'm so bad!" Its important to remember that eating is not a crime.

We're all here with a single goal in mind: improving our lives. For some it's by losing, some by gaining, some just by becoming more aware of our consumption. I don't know anyone who is here because they're a bad person or as a punishment.

I first thought about encouraging people to forgive themselves, but then I realized that there's nothing to forgive. You ate. You didn't kick puppies or set somebody's house on fire. You ate. That's all.

So instead I encourage everyone to revisit why they're doing this in the first place. Yesterday was yesterday and beating yourself up over a past you cant change isn't going to get you back on track. Stay here in this moment, which you can control. When you think about yesterday, think about the laughs with family and friends; these are the moments that enrich our lives and make all the diet and exercise worthwhile. That's why we do it, so we can have more of those memories with our favorite people, not memories of the day's calorie count. Smile
And then the day came, when the risk to remain tight in a bud
was more painful than the risk it took to Blossom.

Wow... that's exactly what I was thinking as I read through some of the journals. Kittyglitter, that was very well put. We are all going to have bad days and we can't beat ourselves up about it. Two years from now, when we are looking at the pictures with our families and friends, we won't remember how much we ate. We will remember the fun!

Hopefully, we'll also be thinking about the positive changes in our exercise and eating habits and how healthy and strong our bodies are compared to that day!

I'm glad you agree! I love food and don't think it should be the enemy. Smile

I agree. Nothing wrong with indulging a little on holidays either! Just life. Just because theres a lot of food around doesn't mean you have to eat a ton of it. Quality not quantity Smile. You choose. The food doesn't make the choice.

I had a great time, I did realize tho yesterday, there were a few other over weight people at the party and I am proud to say I didnt join them at hovering around the food all day :] Not anymore thank you!! Having a brownnie doesnt mean you have ruined all you have worked for, changing your habits are all part of learning. :] Hope everyone had a great time!

It's interesting how our relationships with food change. I remember I used to always make sure I had a seat near the food table so I could eat and not *look* like I was going back for 4ths and 5ths. It was like a strange, embarrassing security blanket.

I made turkey chili yesterday, something I get filled up on and it's healthy. I didn't want to go to cookouts so I stayed at home and chilled. Greatest holiday! Smile However; well said kittyglitter. We often forget that the family get together's are just that, a get together w/ your family - not a get together w/ the food. What's even worse is when you're so hard on yourself afterwards, I don't see the point. You got to eat some yummy food, you were around your family and enjoyed the holiday - why stress over the food?
