Wouldn't beer be considered a carb and therefore not allowed on the Atkin's Diet? I don't really know, I don't believe in those kinds of diets...

I forget why but I know that soda water has less cals than tonic. Less sugar maybe? Can't remember) I know I switched from vodka tonics to vodka and soda while following a low carb diet. It's an acquired taste--esp if you are used to tonic. But it's not bad. In general the clear liquors have fewer cals than the colored or brown liquors. Ask for an extra lime and go with the vodka and soda.

Bloody Marys (many vegetable and tomato juices have only 1 carb per ounce...you can make a nice drink using only 3 ounces of these as a mix, adding ice, vodka and water if needed to create a nice large drink....I garnish it with Olives and/or Celery sticks or whole firm Green Beans.

• Your body processes alcohol first, before fat, protein, or carbs. Thus drinking slows down the burning of fat. This could account for the weight gain seen in some studies.

I thought this thread was a joke??? Laughing My bad!!! I just assumed you were kidding with that question.
Beer is to the Atkins Diet as drinking is to driving! Not a good combo...

I kind of knew the answer already. I was hoping that someone would say that high carb wheat bear was perfectly acceptable. The vodka tonics sound like a pleasing alternative.

"Alcohol is not allowed during the first two weeks of Induction. If you remain on this phase longer,
you can have a glass of wine, a low-carb beer, or a small amount of spirits mixed with water or club soda, but be sure to avoid mixers that contain carbs, including fruit juices and tonic water. Understand that consuming alcohol may slow your weight loss."

This was taken off the Atkins website, FYI.

No Alcohol on Induction. Period.

Every time you drink alcohol, your body switches from burning fat to burning the alcohol. Every time you drink alcohol, you interrupt your progress for 1-3 days.
