FOODS TO AVOID

Does anyone know the most sabotaging foods when trying to lose weight besides the obvious (sugar, sat. fat). Also, what is the deal with caffeine I keep hearing that your are not supposed to have caffeine when your trying to lose weight. Why?

I would basically just say Empty Calories.

By that I mean anything you eat that has a lot of calories and no significant nutritional value. Soda is the usual example. Lots of sugar, no vitamins Smile

I avoid foods that are my weakness. My number one weakness is potato chips. I absolutely will not have any. Period. Ever. Like cigarettes- just one is not ok. At my lowest point of dietary gluttony, I would sit down and eat an entire bag of chips all at once. I figured I've eaten enough chips for a lifetime. They provide no nutrition and a ton of fat, carbs, and salt.

my weakness is anthing mixing chocolate and mint together- if it's in the house I'll eat it. I buy one box of mint chocolates a year at chritmas time and that is it! Smile

Another thing I've finally given up entirely is fast food. It is horrible for you. Not a reasonable option. Nothing wrong with a cheeseburger now and then, but not from McDonalds Smile Better to make it yourself or get it at a better restaurant.

My weakness is any type of bread (Carb no-no), I am new to the site. I have had numerous attempts at dieting by watching my fats, carbs, etc. but never by counting calories or documenting what I do. If anyone has a healthy suggestion to loose 68 lbs in 25 weeks and still be able to have a little bread (my one food love) I would be greatful. Also please add me as a buddy and encourage me on this track.

Bread is okay, at least I think so. The Atkins crowd will come tell you different Smile I've never watched my carbs to be honest. Of course, I eat brown rice instead of rice, wheat pasta instead of regular, etc. Just trying to get the most nutrition out of everything.
If you do have it, have it in moderation and have a whole grain bread never white bread.

There are a lot of discussions about the benefits of caffeine being good or bad. I chose to believe that it was bad and here’s what was explained to me. Caffeine is a stimulant, and gives the body an artificial sensation of higher energy levels. If you are eating a high protein low carb program your body will need to find a new source for energy, which would be fat because your body is using the protein and carbs to repair itself from the workouts that you have been doing.

For me its carbs. I do weigh myself everyday, and I can see immediately on the scale when I eat too much carbs. I try to stick to complex carbs. They dont seem to do as much damage as the refined carbs. But I look at my success as being more a TOTAL approach...sensible meal choices, portion control, and getting off my butt Smile I dont think in my mind one single thing would sabatoge you as much as making better choices overall.
