Don't Panic!

If this site is saying that black beans are 600+ cals per cup, then this site is wrong.

Rest assured, black beans are about 220 calories per cup. Well, unless you're adding 4 tablespoons of butter to your beans. Then it would probably be about 600 cals.

I'm definitely in my zone."

I've had the same shock - I think the higher count is for dry beans (pre cooked).

Yeah, that number was for dry beans. They swell up 3 times bigger when they are cooked.

The best thing to do is buy the can you want and add it to the food diary as a new food and put what the label on the can says...you have to make sure you give the brand and description...and look to see what the serving size is for the calorie count.

None of this makes sense. I looked at three different sources (1) Nutritondata.com says that 1 cup (194gm) of beans = 667 cal (2) C. Netzer Complete book of food counts says 1 cup of dry beans = 360 cal, and (3) the package of dry beans in front of me says 1 cup dry black beans = 280 cal. I guess go with what you find on the package but this seems out of line.
