I just got started yesterday, should I weigh myself daily or weekly? Any help would be appreciated!

Weekly or monthly would be best, but it's up to you. I do it monthly.

Depending on what diet you are following you may see a decrease in your numbers pretty quickly. For example, I am following The South Beach Diet and I lost about 5 pounds in my first week and am still losing (about 11 pounds lighter). The only thing that I would warn against is there are a number of factors that can contribute to numbers on the scale and that does not always accurately reflect your progress if you weigh yourself too often. If you don't want to be discouraged by up and down numbers, or a scale that's not moving...I would suggest weighing in once a week...and resisting the temptation the remainder of the week...HOPE THAT HELPS.

I agree with the others weekly or monthly but it does depend on the diet. I weigh myself weekly so I can adjust my intake and keep my body thinking that it needs to burn the calories. if you are not concerned with that then whatever makes you happy. you may want to increase your protein also or your carbs just to keep your body guessing that works best for me. the only down fall with daily is the physchological factor of not losing it quick enough to satisfy your own desires. JUST MY OPINION

I weigh my self everyday but I don't recommend it. It's a habit I just can't break.

when i was a weightloss coach, we weighed our clients every day for the first two weeks. Then 3 times a week. This helps you stay focused and also it helps one see the affects of certain types of food. If you see a visual to what the food your eating is doing, your more likely to stay on target. It does depend on the diet your on though. The more natural foods you choose and prepare the better for you. Try to stay away from processed food. They are loaded with chemicals and sodium, not good for weightloss. Measuring and weighing your food is very effective, when eye balling the measurements, we naturally add more and then a little bit more...and so on. Another thing you should do, only weigh yourself in the morning when you first wake up, thats your true weight, you body's weight will fluctuate through out the day, sometimes even up to 5 pounds. If you can't weigh yourself first thing in the morning, then do it about the same time in the day, every time. Don't be afraid of the scale, its your friend, it will help you stay focused, also, be sure to measure you inches, inch loss is also a big motivater Smile

Here's how I do it: I weigh myself daily, but I only record it once a week. The reason for the daily weigh in is to see what my water weight is like for the day and to see if there is a trend showing up (such as 4 or 5 days of sequential weight gain) but the weekly weigh in lets me see the trend over the long term. Also, if I do see a weight gain trend I can make adjustments.

However, once a week is probably about as often as you want to weigh in, unless you're seeing some significant changes faster than that, which can happen when you first start to diet.

I weigh myself once a week and I measure myself once a month. Women have too many fluctations to do more than that-of course that is just my opinion. I know I don't want to be a slave to the scale, but I have to know the numbers, that is important.

I try not to weigh myself daily because it discourages me. So I just picked a day (Friday) and weigh myself weekly the same day and time.

I hate to admit that right now, I weigh myself before I put anything into my mouth or before I walk out the door.

weekly definitely. Your weight can fluctuate from day to day and could cause unnecessary panic!

definitely not daily! weekly is best, because if you do it monthly you could gain too much not knowing it and then have to try to loose it fast. if you weigh yourself weekly if you gain a pound it will be easier to put off.
Up is down. That's just maddingly unhelpful. Why are these things never clear?

Once a week, the same day of the week, as soon as you wake up. That is what I do, and it works very good. Good luck.

I weigh myself every day just because it makes me think about it every day. If I'm up I know I have to be good and if I'm down it feels so great that I stay focused. I also chart my weight on a simple excel page by the week. I've done this for years and I can see a definate trend on what months I gain and what months I am able to lose.

I use to weigh myself almost everyday, but with a womans weight going up and down based off her earthly day (water weight sets in and bloating)I would have to say once a week or once every two weeks.I just started this program on Tuesday, 09/09/2009 and I have yet to weigh in however I will do so at the end of the month this way I will have a few weeks under my belt.Encouragement and determination is the key. When you see almost everyone weighing-in once a week, you should suspect/realize that once a day is better, once a month is insane. Wink

8 pounds in a month is pretty great. That is 2 pounds per week. That is the far-end of the range of what you can leave and keep it off.
