Atkins - Why did I gain?

I notice I did have an increase in calories for a couple days, although my net carbs were right on. Is this supposed to happen, or do I need to start watching my calories too?

I do clearly remember that after the initial 3 weeks or so the weight very unpredictable except on a week or two week basis. I primarily attributed it to hydration changes. When this was happening I felt like I was losing the fat, but gaining water. My clothes were continuing to get looser, even though weight was increasing.

And yes, as you lose, you will be burning less energy every day, and you will have to be conscious of the calories you eat if you want to continue to drop weight.

I've been on the Atkin's nutritional approach since mid-April. If you looked at my weight chart it resembles a downward sloping zig zag. My pattern is to lose weight to a new low, immediately climb back up 2-3 lbs and start working my way down until that new low is my new average then repeat the cycle. I will often go 2 weeks without losing any new weight then drop 1-2 lbs.

This is actually very average. I have lost at a weekly .84 lb average. That's low-medium as most people vary between .5-2 lbs per week.

Colette, the official nutritionist at the Atkins Message Board has said, "We lose in fits and starts." Sometimes we've eaten too much salt and are retaining water-weight, the weather is hot and sticky and we retain water-weight, it's our TOM (time of the month) or our body just decides to be obnoxious because it can Smile

Thank you both for the encouragement. Maybe it is water weight. I just thought that during induction there would be this huge weight drop, so I'm a little discouraged and feel like I must not be doing something right. I'm still reading my Atkins book, though, so maybe that will help figure out what the problem is. If I'm going to gain weight...well, I might as well eat a dang gone doughnut!! I know that's not the way I should be thinking but I'm a little frustrated. sorry. Sad

It's very common to lose a lot the first week a little the second and nothing for a couple of weeks. I've heard it over and over. Hang in there. Do everything right and it will eventually go away!
