Hi! I'm new to this site, and in the Atkins induction phase. From what I've read on the forums, it seems like a good idea to have a fiber supplement. What are the differences between using flax or psyllium? And which is better for low carb?

I am on Atkins as well and Flax seems to be best. It can take some a few days to get use to it.

Thanks! I didn't get any answer and was starting to think I'd posted this wrong. Do you just sprinkle it on your food? Is ground the best, or liquid?

There is a good recipe for MIM (muffin in a minute)that i got from the Atkins site, it is ok to have once a day and great for induction.Daily may upset the stomach until you are use to the flax.
1/4 cup flax meal
1 tsp cinn
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 pk splenda
1 egg
mix dry ingredients first, then add egg mix all together put in coffee cup or small bowl microwave 30sec -1 min depending in microwave. Can even add a pat of real butter if you like. eat and enjoy!!

I take psyllium husk tablets every morning with my vitamin - I made it part of the regimen. But, it didn't help completely. I found that a fiber therapy works pretty well. I'm currently using sugar-free Target brand. It's comparable to Metamucil and has 2 carbs. It's gritty and not the most pleasant thing to do, but it's a lot more pleasant than being constipated.

Wow, Mrs. REJ, that's a lot of flax! Are the Mim's pretty tasty? I did purchase some ground flax seed today and sprinkled some on my salad tonight. The container recommends 2 - 4 tbls. per day, but that may be under normal circumstances...not considering Atkins induction. Do you know what the recommended amount is during induction? I also have some Benefiber, which I'm guessing may be similar to Fiber Therapy?

There is no strict recommendation how much flax to use on Induction. Since flax has no digestable carbs (fiber only) and high amount of good fat I would say use as much as you can. In my case - 2 Tbsp a day. I add it to my low carb protein shake. Same with psyllium (seems to have more pleasant taste).

The MIM's are really good. Oh and I forgot to post that it is 3.5 net carbs. I also have a single flax pancake recipe if you would like it.
You can also use 1/2 to 1oz cream cheese, 1 pkg splenda 1/8 tsp van or any flavoring mix all together put on MIM or pancake

Yummy! The pancakes sound delicious! Approximately how much vanilla, cinnamon or splenda should I add? And do I add all three? Also, when you say "flax" or "flax meal", is that the same as the ground flax seeds?

Just made my first MIM tonight. Was pleasantly surprised! Very, very filling. Do you know if it is listed in the food database?
