Hi folks! I'm a retired teacher and live in Central Texas, am 60 years old and am doing Atkins for the second time. The first was 6 years ago. Lost 20 lbs. and then my life went to pieces after my Dad died. Gained it all back over 4 years slowly. Am doing it this time for life, because I know it's the only healthy way to eat, I need to lose weight, and you are not hungry all the time on Atkins.
I started at 190 April 21st, lost 10 in Induction and have lost 2-3 so far in OWL. I'm post-menopausal and probably have hormone issues (not on HRT) that slow down my weight loss. But frankly, I'm in no hurry, because this eating lifestyle is for life. I'm too old to keep doing this only to regain and have to start all over again. If I lose a pound every week or two, that's fine with me.
One question, as I begin to explore your site. What food database does FatSecret use? USDA nutritional information? Tomorrow will be my first day food loading and I'm sure there's a learning curve. Maybe it won't be any harder than on FitDay.
I got that one pretty quick.
I look forward to chatting with you fellow Atkins devotees.

Hi! I am 51 years old, weigh 165 now, and just started working on cutting out white flour carbs. I was pretty full today - this is the second day that I am working on an Atkins style menu. Not sure about the data base, but Good Luck with fatsecret! I have lost 5 pounds over the past 10 weeks - it's good to hear that someone else things that's a good plan!
Every day is a new day.

If you are eating Atkins Induction, you want to make sure your daily menu includes plenty of healthy fats, <20-25 carbs of grams, and sufficient (but not too much) protein. Your body converts excess ...

Need suggestions on healthy/low-calorie foods.
I'm reading this while eating some absolutely delightful fresh melon for breakfast. If the melon isn't soft enough on its own you could add it to a fruit smoothie.

Hmmm. Didn't realize plain yogurt was that high in carbs. I mentioned it because the friend who recommended it to me said her parents do it, and they are both on Atkins. I'm doing Paleo, but ...

Even though fat doesn't count in Atkins, it can cause you to gain or not lose weight if you consume too much. Be careful of over eating this nutrient. ie: cream, cream cheese.
