I have been unsuccessfully trying to lose my last 5lbs for the past month (I weigh 129 and am trying to get to 124 where I used to be).
I exercise 6x/wk but maybe it's my diet that is in the way. I've never been to weight watchers because I'm afraid they won't take me as per my height (5'8" ) I'm already the supposed "correct weight" but thinking maybe it would help?
I'm currently eating 3 meals a day plus two snacks...approx 1500 calories/day with one cheat day a week (extra 500 calories)..
Anyone have any diet suggestions to get through this plateau? Or recommendations about joining weight watchers??

Try to mix up your workout. Your muscles might just be used to what you are doing at the gym if you workout is similiar every day. Maybe some circuit training would shred those last 5 lbs or intervals on the treadmill. Good luck!

I think ur calories are too high, I know everyones different but 1500cals is enough to maintain my weight and im 180lbs lol!
I think u should mix it up a little, eat around 1000cals a day and the next day like 1100 then 1300 then 1000 again etc, and take a break from exercising a little it looks like your working yourself too hard

I'm not sure if dramatic calorie reduction is the best idea for someone as tall as cookiewatson. Maybe I'm a hypocrite because I already get well below 1500 most days. I think a change to the exercise routine would be at least as effective and considerably less dangerous. At least, try that first.
I know my first instinct would be to drop my intake, but trust me. I've been there.

Have you ever considered the possibility that you are at your "correct weight"?

i am kinda stuck too around the same weight. been around the same weight for 6 months now.
its getting annoying now.
i am much shorter - 5'0"
i have tried many things execpt the slow down on exercise suggested by dreno. maybe i should.
i refuse to think i am at a correct weight now... how can there be girls my size much thinner.. lol idk.
i believe there is a barrier weight, a weight i was at years ago, a weight my body was very used to. i can't remember being under 125.
cookie- you are tall so i am guessing 129 looks much better on you... what has changed since you were 124 last? baby? years? muscle?

Your calorie intake is fine. Try 2 days at 1500 Cal followed by one day of 1200. Dont go under 1200 Cal. Your diet should be strict with carbs. Only complex carbs and in moderation. Usually its 1 cup cooked old-fashoined oatmeal + one very small apple a day. Eat lots of green veggies (spinach, broccoli, celery etc.) watch your fat and make sure you eat protein with every meal. The perfect amount for you is a size of your palm - chicken breast, turkey breast, white fish, 5 egg whites (no yolks), tofu etc. And of course weight training - intense and at least 3 times a week.

Hey Cookiewatson, I was just reading your post and I'm in the same boat. I am 5'8 and 130 pounds. At one point I was down to 126.0 but the more I started working out the more my weight went up. I eat between 1200 - 1500 cals per day and still I am balancing between 128 - 131 for the past 2 months. I've tried switching up my workouts as well, by taking a spinning class, weight lifting and mixing in the cardio classes more. I'm interested to see what body fat percent I am. I think I need to start realizing the more tone I look the better I feel rather than the less I weight the better I feel. If that makes sense?
