what exercise helped you out most?
I'm walking on the treadmill once daily at 3mph and try for an incline of 3% but not always happening (until i can work up more energy). after my move i will be using the treadmill but not as much as i have pure country land to walk and a two mile range (from my house to the church down the road and back) so on sunny warm days I'll be out walking. my main question is though is walking and eating right enough to loose the poundage and huge prego-looking belly i want? or should i be doing other things, if so what other things would you recommend?

For me it was running (outside, not on the dreadmill). I love training for races and it gives me motivation to keep up my workouts.

However, that's me, and everyone is different.

The exercise that's going to help you the most is the one you enjoy and can stick with long term. If you don't like running then it's not going to do you any good to start because you'll end up quitting once you get bored. Try all kinds of exercise until you find something you enjoy. There are hundreds of options from lifting weights, walking, martial arts, cycling, etc.

I don't have any one exercise that I like doing, but I find that running on the treadmill (at around 6-7) and the exercise bike (level 10) will burn the calories fast. I really enjoy aerobics dance classes, but that usually depends on the instructor and the intensity of the dance. But as a previous poster said, it has to be something that you like or else you won't be motivated to do it. If walking works for you, then great!

As posted above... JUST MOVE!!!

When I play softball and ride my bicycle for an hour I see a dramatic change when I weigh in...

I try to plan active activities with my friends, such as bowling, mini golf, anything that will keep me moving... It's great because you are burning calories and having fun!

if you move to country then you'll have many different things to do outside. walking, running, riding bicycle...gardenning is a very good workout too. you may have to clean around the house, rake the leaves at fall, trim the trees, all che chores going with a country house can become exercise! and this kind of active lifestyle will have very good consequences on your weight loss. (it works for me!)

Walking is good, as long as you can get your heart rate up so that your breathing a liitle hard and breaking a sweat. Eventually, you'll want to add in some weight training - helps bulld muscle so that you keep buning calories, even when your not exercising, and really helps with keeping your bones strong so that you don't end up with osteoporosis when you get older.

running..! here's the thing, it's all calories in / calories out. for me, I don't want to spend 2 hours walking, want to get in, get out and burn as much as I can. Running does this.

I also had a personal trainer session 1 time and they told me that running generally beats out everything for burning the most calories.

I brought a heart monitor, and it's the best for keeping my heart rate high so I can burn more calories in less minutes.

If you want to work out longer (go for hour or two walks) that might work better for you depending on your preference. I really recommend the calorie watch though, you get a really good read on what you burn during what.. and then you can decide how much time and effort you want to do / what fits you.

Yea, running's awesome. Wish I could do that as part of my routine, but my hip joint just can't take that kinda beating.

For me, I find weight training to be rewarding - I just like pushing myself with it. Striving to push through my own personal doubt about whether I can keep going. Pushing through the doubt and eeking out those last several reps until I simply reach failure. It's fun. Feels great to break through the mental barrier.

Also, I have a ton of fun practicing Kokikai Aikido. It's a great exercise in itself - not to mention the numerous other benefits.

What has really motivated me is my Martial Arts workouts and routines. They are killer, and they point out areas of my life that I need to work on outside of the dojo. I'm running now to improve my endurance (and I really dislike running...) since I feel I need to in order to further my other training, for example.

For my wife it has been dance, specifically she has started taking a "Pole Dance for Fitness" class. I laughed about it a little bit at first, but she is developing a six pack and is amazingly fit. If you don't have any objection to the exercise it is definitely killer.

If Pole Dance isn't your thing I have a few friends that have lost weight and gotten fit doing ballroom dancing. I would recommend that as well as it looks like a lot of fund and it gives you something to do outside of the hobby when you go out.
