Hi everyone!... I read something about a really strict diet that works in 3 days by the Navy doctors, they also call it the hot dog diet... any body tried it? can it be used to break a plateau?

In 3 days you will loose 3 lbs. (they say you could loose even 10 lbs)
After 3 days of dieting you can eat normal food, but don't overdo it. After 4 days of normal eating start back on your 3 day diet. You can loose up to 30 lbs in 40 days - if you stick with it.

To add some input on the 3-day diet, from what i understand, this diet is from the Cardiac Unit of Birmingham Alabama Hospital. The diet is based on a Chemical breakdown and it works. It is given to patients who need to loose lots of weight fast before having heart surgery you could loose up to 40lbs in one month. You may not substitute any of the foods and Salt and Pepper may be used to season your food, no other spices.

A cardiac diet that recommends hot dogs? Sign me up. Wink

Seriously, though. while losing weight in 3 days is obviously an attractive idea, I'm pretty surprised by what's on the recommended list of food.

Sorry to be a downer, but I can't believe that a dr. with contemporary knowledge of nutrition would be recommending hot dogs and sliced meats for people with heart problems--and no leafy greens. Saltines? Most of them are loaded with trans fats--pretty much the single worst "food" you can eat--especially for your heart! Sad

Before you start it, read this notice on the Birmingham hospital's website, they say they have nothing to do with the diet: http://www.health.uab.edu/17668/

Of course if you're eating less than 1200 cals a day you will initially see a loss--no matter what you're eating. As they say in the link, there is unfortunately no magical quality to the foods listed that will break up fat or change the biochemistry of your body.

But you'll be primarily losing water and muscle and, unless you're already on the tiny side, you can't go for long on 1200 cals. The weight will come back when you go bck to your old eating.

You'd be much better off filling yourself with nutrient dense veggies. You'd be surprised at how quickly you lose cravings for sugar and processed foods--and how quickly the pounds will start falling off! Cut out dairy and meat, fill up on veggies. You will bust through your plateau AND feel great.

Im on the lowcarb diet, but my question here was: does this diet help you break a plateu? It is not a healthy diet, I know! But could be a jump start for some people or a tool to use when you fall into a plateu... Thats the info Im after!

I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that plateaus do not exist. In every case I've seen or experienced one it was not actually a plateau, but that someone (including myself) slowly got off track without noticing it.

Boredom can lead to slipping on your diet or workouts, so it's good to change it up every now and then, but I don't believe this diet has special 'plateau buster' qualities.

I'd have to agree, /0. Every plateau I've experienced either meant I was slacking on my exercise or cheating on my diet.
